The Ninjawarriors is one of those great SNES classics that not very many people know about but should. I remember being about 7 or 8 years old playing this all the time. It would be this or Tetris Attack, which back then I wasn't very good at ha ha. It's your basic side-scrolling fighter game with a lot of replay value. I've played it a few times on here since I've joined and haven't been let down.
Graphics
I would say the graphics for this game are quite spectacular compared to many SNES games. I feel like there was so much attention to detail put into this game. Shading was used quite effectively in the foreground of the game. While the background doesn't offer much by not changing as you move through a stage, it still creates enough of a variety as the foreground is always changing. I think where you see the height in the graphics is during some of the boss battles. The first boss battle really sets the tone for the rest of the game.
Sounds
I really like the soundtrack for the game. Some of the later stages have some great music in them especially the final stage. It's very eerie and creepy which adds a certain amount of suspense to it. One nice thing with boss battles is that they make sure that the music has a nice injection of energy into to really get you into the mood of defeating the bosses. When a boss battle lingers on the music can really add to the situation. With that being said, my favorite bit of music in the game is during the credit roll. It doesn't really glorify you as a hero that saved millions, it is a bit understated and gives you a sense of humility which I think is important, even if you do self-destruct in the end ha ha.
Addictiveness
Why else do we end up on this site? We love to play the games we were addicted to when we were younger, as well as finding new ones. This game, for me, was definitely one that would always have me coming back for more. The more you beat it the more you would want to try and beat your high score even if you played it 50 times before.
Story
There's not really much to the story. They have a nice opening sequence that shows you the villain and what his mission was and how he came to power. After that there's not much story until you complete the game, which has a nice closing sequence.
Depth
The game is relatively short if you can play through without getting any game overs. Once you get adjusted to the game this is what you should shoot for every time. If you get a game over, start from scratch until you can play through without using a continue. The time it should take you is about 60 - 90 minutes that is if you don't use continues. It's definitely one of those games that are good for a lazy day at home and you're looking to kill time.
Difficulty
On hard, the game can get a bit dicey in spots. There are sections in the game where you will be begging for an energy tank as you are about depleted. The final stage is one of those sections because that airport hanger will try and take you for every bit of energy that you have. As far as boss stages are concerned, the green stretchy guy is quite tough. He moves very quickly around the screen and uses his stretchy abilities to throw you around the stage. You'll see two robots that are identical to the first stage boss; the only difference is here is that they are about 5 times stronger. Combined they are quite the formidable opponents.
Overall
This game was far and away one of the greats to come out for the SNES. For a fighting game it gave you everything you wanted with explosions, great bosses, and tons of entertainment value. If you didn't have it for the SNES, I would more than encourage you to play it here on Vizzed. You won't be disappointed.
