Back in 2003, GBA classics Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire came out in the US. They were the best selling GBA games of all time. 11 years later, their remakes Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire came out for the 3DS. I decided to buy Omega Ruby because I wanted to get Primal Groudon so bad. Now that I've finished it I'm ready to make this review.

Graphics: 10/10 Pokemon Omega Ruby, like Pokemon X and Y has 3d graphics which look absolutely amazing! Every location in the game looks better than ever. One location in particular that stands out to me is Mauville City. In Ruby it didn't really stand out too much. There were far better looking cities such as Rustboro City, Mossdeep City, and Sootopolis City. But now it's one of the most unique looking cities in the history of the series. It looks like a giant shopping mall and there's plenty of areas within the city to explore. Another thing I love is when you get to fly freely around the Hoenn region on Latios. Getting to see the entire region from the sky is incredible. Hoenn has never looked better the graphics for Omega Ruby get a 10!

Sound: 9/10 Knowing how bad Gamefreak botched the Heartgold/Soulsilver soundtracks, I was worried how they would do remastering the R/S/E soundtrack. Fortunately, they did a great job with a majority of the soundtrack. One example in particular of this is Meteor Falls, which honestly sounds exactly the same way I envisioned it would sound. Gamefreak made that theme perfectly. Other examples are the Team Magma Grunt and Leader themes, as well as the rival theme, Primal Groudon, and Frontier Brain themes. There were plenty of other great examples of high quality music but those ones in particular are my favorites. While Gamefreak did a lot of things right with the soundtrack, there were a few themes that got botched. The worst example is the Mt Chimney theme. The original version it fit the area perfectly while the new version doesn't fit the area at all and it just sounds plain awful. Some other examples are the elite 4 and champion themes. There is a little bit of new music in the game as well those new themes are very good. Overall the soundtrack is fantastic I give it a 9.

Addictiveness: 10/10
Like all Pokemon games, Omega Ruby is extremely fun to play and it has loads of replay value. There's loads of Pokemon to catch, and plenty of choices for you to make your ultimate party! Pokemon Contests are just as fun as they were in R/S/E. Also for those of you who love online battles there's plenty of those to participate in. Also once those online competitions start online play will take up a lot of your free time. The Battle Maison is another thing that will take up a lot of play time. Also there are tons of legendaries to catch including legendaries from gens 2, 3, 4, and 5. There's plenty of stuff to do in this game and for that reason I give addictiveness a 10.

Story 8/10
The storyline in Omega Ruby is pretty much the same as Ruby. Basically like in other pokemon games you go on a journey to become the best trainer in Hoenn. Along the way you must defeat gym leaders, stop team magma reaching their goal of reviving Groudon and bringing more land to the world, beat the elite 4 and becoming the Hoenn champion. The only difference is now there's a post story known as the delta episode. A small summary of what happens without giving away to many spoilers is there's an asteroid heading towards Hoenn and you must find a way to stop it. I really enjoyed it and it gives people another reason to buy this game. Other than that there isn't much of a difference with the story between this game and Ruby. I'm giving the story an 8.

Depth: 9/10 Pokemon Omega Ruby like other pokemon games has 8 gyms to beat, as well as the pokemon league. There's an evil organization you must stop, in this game it's team magma. There's pokemon contests, and you can make your own secret base just like in Ruby. Also the delta episode provides extra depth as well. Also there are more mega evolutions in this game than in X and Y. My main issue in the game is that Gamefreak decided not to add the Battle Frontier from Pokemon Emerald in the game instead of the Battle Maison from X and Y. The Battle Maison's not bad but the Battle Frontier was so much better. The Battle Frontier had 7 very different battle facilities and each had a frontier brain that you must beat while the Battle Maison is one facility that has 4 battle chatelaines (which are basically the frontier brains of the Battle Maison). The Battle Frontier is still to this day the best post game content any pokemon game has ever had. If they would've added that to the game instead of the Battle Maison Pokemon Omega Ruby would've been in my eyes the greatest video game remake of all time. But since they didn't add the Battle frontier I have to give the depth a 9.

Difficulty: 4/10 One mistake that Gamefreak made with X and Y was making the Exp Share a key item. When activated all pokemon in your party get exp. This makes the game outrageously easy. Unfortunately they brought it back in Omega Ruby... If you decide not to use this cheap excuse for an item however, the game can provide a decent challenge even for veterans of the series such as myself. The first Maxie battle in particular kinda got me a little nervous. Unfortunately there are some battles that are ridiculously easy such as the Tate & Liza Battle. Like in the original Ruby, they only have a Solrock and a Lunatone which is pathetic since they're the 7th gym leaders. They should've had the same team they had in Emerald. That would've made this battle much better. While that was a disappointing battle, there were some good battles which is why I'm giving the difficulty a 4.

Overall score: 9.5/10 Pokemon Omega Ruby is a wonderful remake to a timeless classic. With a brilliant soundtrack, a great post story, and even more mega evolutions than X and Y, Pokemon Omega Ruby is the best Pokemon game for the 3DS so far. If you want a nostalgia rush or if you've never played the gen 3 games then I highly recommend you try out this masterpiece. I give the overall score a 9.5! I hope you enjoyed reading this review.

Thanks for the review, you did an awesome job! I'm not the only one that thinks the game is too easy (With the EXP Share), if you don't mind me asking, what level were your Pokémon at The Cave of Origin? Mine range from 51-56 as of now, and I'd like to compare them to an external variable.

thecrzyguy : I'm glad you like my review. Also my pokemon levels at that time ranged between 52-41 (the level 41 pokemon was a gyarados which I got rid of after I caught Groudon).

This is a good review, getting better each time especcially with the length. As for the game, I still have not really played it aside for a few minutes at Nintendo World but I really want it. Keep up with writing these.

Nah, it would probably take me a whole year to get enough money to pay for it.

I agree. The Gen 3 remakes are arguably the best in the series. They just seem to have a lot more depth to the story and the gameplay, and they were really able to flesh Ruby and Sapphire out after so many years.
