I've had this idea of making a Music/Rythm/Beat game based on remixed Video Game Music. All of the music would be music that I would have specifically composed/remixed for the game and the songs would be remixes of many popular games and their songs.

There'd be 3 variations of each song, a metal variation and 2 other variations. There'd be leaderboards for each song and each variation and also an overall leaderboard. There'd also be unlockable songs and some of the unlockables would possibly even be things non game related (such as a remix of the original TMNT theme song).

The game would be playable on vizzed but it'd also be exported to most mobile devices. The game most likely would be completely free and revenue would be made off of the adds. There'd probably be various "editions" of the game based on a few video game generations (for example, 16 bit, 8 bit, 32/64 bit, etc).

Some of the songs would actually be composed for 2 purposes. I plan to do some video game themed stop motion videos in the future so some of the songs would be composed for those videos and then re-used for the game. For example, I eventually plan to make a LEGO Stop Motion video of Super Mario Kart so I had the following song remixed for it but I'd also use the following song for the game as well:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DqoFtuMsB9Q

Anyways, what do you guys think of the idea? Do you think something like this would be successful?

David, now this is something that I can see in Vizzeds future because this is a wonderful idea. Rythm based games have been quite popular, so I see no reason why this would not work. Any idea how long until it would be ready?

A rhythm based game, using metal, and maybe dubsteb remixes of classic video game music? Oh yeah, I am so down for this.

Something like that would work well on a smartphone, and it has done so.

You'll probably get a few downloads from members of this site and others interested but something like this has probably been done 1000s of times before and possibly some with video game ost remixes. Unless this game has a unique feature that works, it probably wont be the next flappy bird.

However I'm no master of mobile marketing and I have seen people with folders of clones and spin-offs on their devices so I could very easily be wrong and you could make a respectable amount of money.

Either way if you make lots of money or not, the experience in developing it will be worth while and at least I'll install it

zanderlex : Well it'd be expensive to have someone remix a ton of songs so I'm not sure how long it'd take to come up with the budget for that, maybe 3 months. The development of the game would probably be by me but I'm not too sure yet. But yeah, if I broke it down into multiple games, then I'd probably be able to release things quicker.

Here's how I'd break it down into multiple games:

8-bit:
-6 Nintendo NES songs from popular franchises including Mario, Zelda and Metroid.
-3 Sega Master System songs

16-bit:
-4 Super Nintendo songs from popular franchises including Final Fantasy, Mario Kart, etc.
-3 Sega Genesis songs songs from popular franchises including Sonic, Streets of Rage, etc
-1 Turbo Grafx song
-1 Sega CD song

32/64-bit:
-3 Playstation songs from popular games including Final Fantasy VII, Metal Gear Solid, etc
-3 Nintendo 64 songs from popular games including Goldeneye, The Legend of Zelda - Ocarina of Time, etc
-2 Sega Saturn songs from popular games including NiGHTS, Saturn Bomberman, etc
-1 3DO song

Basically there'd be 12 songs per a game, 9 would be unlocked and 3 would be unlockable. 1 of the unlockables would be a non-gaming song from a popular movie or cartoon from that era. Also it'd probably be 1 song per a franchise (but this wouldn't apply to the unlockables). I'm not sure if the "eras" would include handheld games, pc games or arcade games of that era. Due to how much it'd cost me per a song, I'd probably want to limit it to 12 songs per a game and because of that, I can only include so much.

thing1 : Yeah it'd offer a variety of genre's.

MechaMento : I'm not expecting it to make millions but I'd hope it'd draw in traffic to Vizzed and maybe help me fund other vizzed related features.

Davideo7 : If you got me the software, I'd be willing to remix music for you. I am still learning, and I basically like to start from scratch, but I would be willing to remix songs for you for just getting me the software.

zanderlex :

The guy I'm thinking about hiring that did the Super Mario Kart song uses real instruments and does this professionally for a living. I want the songs to have a very professional sound but if you guys think you can pull that off, try it out and show me an example of what you can do.

Davideo7 : Well, my last song is on my Zanderlex YouTube called Paranoia, that's one of the official ones that I have done, and I have done a bunch more. I can't actually link them when I'm on my phone though.

As a huge fan of rhythm games (never thought you'd hear that, huh), you have my full support and I'd love to help out in any way I can.

However, I do have to ask. Exactly what would be the gameplay of this rhythm game? As in, will it play like DanceDanceRevolution or do you have something else in mind? Also, will the songs ONLY come from video games? I've got a few songs I can think of that don't come directly from video games but sound like they come from games like Megaman.

I've got PLENTY more questions but I think I'll hold back, hahah

I've got so many ideas for it too, not just copying from other rhythm games but ideas coming from my own experience as well.

I really like the idea of this. It might take a bit to get started, but it sounds like it would be fun. Plus, the ad revenue would help you. Personally, I would definitely download it, it really does sound fun.

I'm absolutely excited about this! Download ALL the rhythm apps!

A suggestion - Make the app without required internet access for the most part. Like, make the app playable without internet? Even if it's a paid version, lol. Often when I'm playing games, I don't have internet access.

And yes, I did just say that I'd even pay for this app. lol

zanderlex : Let me know when you have the link.

Galacta : I'm not sure how it'd play exactly but maybe similar to Guitar Hero.

It'd be remixed songs from games with the exception of 1 or 2 songs from other sources per a game.

mrfe : Yeah it wouldn't require internet, the only part of it that would require internet would be submitting your score to the leaderboards (which is obvious). I'm not sure if I'd be able to charge money, I'm not too sure the legalities of making a profit off remixed songs.

I'll go ahead and link zander's song for him.

Paranoia by Zanderlex

I'd be stoked about the lack of internet requirement. However, how could you enforce ads if there is no internet to get the ads? Would the ads come downloaded with the app, and switch whenever access to internet is obtained?

This sounds like a lot of fun, David! How many songs from Final Fantasy VII do you plan to add?
THIRTY!? xD
But yeah, this sounds like a foolproof plan. Only obstacle is copyright, but the ad revenue thing sounds like it will make up for that, even though I really don't like ads on my games. I'd put up with it for the good of this site.

DrakPokeMaster : I wouldn't have the budget for that. I'd love to do a bunch of FFVII songs but due to budget and due to me wanting to offer a variety of songs from a variety of games, there'd probably only be 1 or 2 songs from that game.

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
