Introduction [INT]
------------------------------

Hello again, sonikku here bringing you another guide. This comes from my
childhood (how appropriate), one of the games I had that took me forever to
figure out not because I can't do simple lookups, but because I couldn't figure
out how to LEAVE the levels. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do a guide on this
month, so I asked a friend over Skype, and he suggested I do Mario is Missing.
Figured since I know the game decently well, I'd go ahead and do it despite it
being a joke answer.

Keep the following in mind as you read. This is for the SNES version. Content
between the NES and SNES version I believe is largely different. If you are
reading this and trying to use it for the NES version, be warned that this
guide may not be 100% accurate for you.

------------------------------
How To Play [HLP]
------------------------------

So the main confusing thing about this game as a child for me was how to
actually leave levels, as once you step off the entrance pipe, a Pokey shows up
and prevents you from leaving. You can leave immediately after entering, but
the level is failed because you haven't returned all the artifacts and you have
to redo it. So in order to beat the level, you have to do the following:

1. Return all artifacts to their proper locations.
2. Figure out where in the world is Carmen San-- I mean Luigi.
3. (Optional) Take photographs of these monuments.

The second thing is the first thing you should figure out. Talk to the
residents and ask them where you are. They won't directly tell you (most of the
time), but they should drop enough hints for you to figure it out. Once you
have, enter the Globulator and direct Yoshi from Bowser's Castle, Antarctica to
where you think you are, then leave the screen. If you're correct, Luigi will
be riding Yoshi and the Pokey will go away when you approach the blue pipe,
permitting you to exit. You also move faster while riding Yoshi.

Next job should be the artifacts. There are many, many Koopas roaming around
town. Three of them are holding artifacts that need to go back to where they
belong. Do your Mario Bros. thing to remove them from the city, and if they do
anything other than poof, they'll drop the artifact they're holding. Just
finding the artifact is not enough, however; the Princess Peach's manning the
info booths around town won't allow you to return the artifact unless you can
prove knowledgeable about it. You can get info on it in one of two ways: asking
the residents about it (you will ask about the highlighted artifact on your
menu when choosing "What is this?") and by getting a newspaper from the info
booth itself. While the info booth newspaper is the most informative of these
options, there's also a lot of useless information that you won't be quizzed
on. The residents may not be completely knowledgeable about things, but it's
easier to read than getting the newspaper. Do what you think will get you
results easier.

When you return an artifact (you'll always show the highlighted artifact in
your menu when choosing this, so be careful not to return the wrong artifact),
the princess will ask you some questions about it. You must get two consecutive
correct answers to return the artifact, and I believe she chooses from a pool
of three questions. (I may be wrong on this.) If you get a question wrong, she
will determine your artifact to be a fake and you'll have to wait a few minutes
before you can try again at ANY information booth. Get both questions correct,
and she'll determine your artifact is the genuine article and reopen the booth
for you to take a picture for your photo album. (Though seriously, if all you
need to do to prove your artifact is genuine is to be knowledgeable about it,
then something is wrong with this world.)

Once you've returned the three artifacts, gotten your (optional) photos of
them, and dragged Yoshi to where you are in the world, you're ready to leave.
The blue pipe will warp you back to Bowser's Castle, and if you completed the
level, you'll get a bonus based on your speed in completing the level. Do this
for every level on a floor, and you get to fight one of the Koopalings.
There is no way to take damage from the Koopalings; they can run into you all
day and nothing happens.
Just stomp them until they poof into nothing and
enter the gate they came out of to advance to the next floor. Why did they even
add this in if it's not even a real fight?

------------------------------
Menuing [MNU]
------------------------------

This is a simple detail of how the menu works.

Artifact: While this box is highlighted, press left and right to change your
active artifact. You can only change it if you hold more than one artifact; you
cannot hold nothing as long as you hold something. Your active artifact is
indicated by a white box.

Computer: Any information you've gleaned by asking residents or grabbing
newspapers appears here. If you know the info, a checkmark will be in its
approrpiate box, which you can review by highlighting and confirming it. At
least Luigi is good about taking notes so you don't have to. (There is no
information for newspapers about where you are.)

Globulator: Map of the world, in wonderful SMW quality. (It's actually not bad
looking, considering.) You have to direct Yoshi to where you believe Luigi is
on this screen.

City Map: Displays a map of the city, in wonderful SMW quality. People are
marked as their related sprite, info booths are marked with a blue circle with
an i in it, and the red dots mark intersections. (You can access a GPS version
by pressing R while not in the menu.)

Photo Album: Any photos you've taken will show up here, in order of when the
photograph was taken. You cannot access this menu if you have not taken any
photos.

If you are looking for time bonuses, keep in mind that YOUR CLOCK IS STILL
TICKING while you are in menus. Spend as little time in them as possible.

Thanks to Davideo7 for hosting the site.

As you may have noticed, there's a bit of missing information from this guide.
I've tried a reasonable length of time (about 15 minutes or so) on each
artifact missing a 3rd question intentionally answering wrong to try and force
the third question with no luck. If anyone would like to help fill in the
missing gaps with the question and correct answer, please do. I'll be sure to
put you in this section with credit for what you've filled in.

How phenomenal is this? With all this information at my disposal, I may have to try beating this game. It's like having an all-inclusive Serebii page but for this one Mario Brothers game instead of Pokémon games.

And... BOOKMARKED.
