Mine personally was Assassins Creed II, though Assassins Creed was a great game, and introduced an entire franchise to the video game world, Assassins Creed II just had those extra elements that made it more enjoyable and satisfying. Remember, any system, any sequel (Canon or non-canon) any time period.

I would say it would be F.E.A.R 3 I think the other ones are good but I really loved the third one much better and the first three looked more like xbox and ps2 games then xbox 360 and ps3 games. I as would say Darkness 2 was much better then the first I thought the first one was good but the second one was just awesome it is one of my favorite fps.

I can't tell you how glad I am to see a thread like this. It seems everyone would rather complain about how the new "xyz" is worse than the previous one, and how the good old days blah blah. lol My personal favorite: "The old games were so much better than modern games! These new games are so unoriginal and repetitive." three minutes later they see an ad for Wii U/PS4/XBox One "Ooh! I need that!" then they rush to the store and drop $400 on a new system, despite their griping about how lame new games and systems are. xD

Anyway, here are a few I liked better than the original game:
-Tomb Raider II was an improvement over the first Tomb Raider. And The Last Revelation was even better.

-Mario Kart 64 was better than Super Mario Kart. The new items and physics (and lack of coin system) was a huge improvement. I still like the original though.

-Streets of Rage II was leaps and bounds better than the original Streets of Rage, and one of the best Beat 'em Ups of it's time.

I could list more, but three should suffice since you only asked for one anyway. lol

To be honest, there aren't many games that make to mind when I think about games with better sequels. One example would be Assassin's Creed 2. AC II was better than AC because the mission were better and everything was improved. You may not agree with me here but I feel like l4d2 was better than l4d (First One) because it has better character and just better.. Everything, but kudos to l4d2 for including l4d levels. ^^ Another example is Far Cry 3. It's better than Far Cry 2. Do I need to say more?

Fallout new Vegas was much better than 3, in all categories except for the character system (less perks and points) I understand you could become very overpowered in fallout 3 in mid to high levels, but really you want from being an invincible bad ass to a little wimp that's so weak that poking you with a stick would kill you.

Sonic 2 absolutely gave Sonic 1 a run for it's money. Don't get me wrong, Sonic 1 was awesome, but Sonic 2 blows it away.

Just thinking off of the top of my head, here are two that absolutely destroyed their predecessors:

Majora's Mask:
Compared to Ocarina of Time on surface level, it may not look like much has changed, but Majora's Mask is by far the more in depth, action packed adventure. The game's graphics and sprites, though some are derived from Ocarina of Time, look so much better on the same console. The dungeons, though there are less of them, are much more challenging and provide a more fun time, in my opinion, anyway, and the game's plot strayed from the norm and far surpassed Ocarina of Time.

Metroid Prime 2:
Prime 2, easily, blew Prime out of the water by improving so much. Even though the developers started from scratch for the game's development, it manages to top Prime in almost every way. The visuals were vastly improved, many of the gameplay elements were refined, and I overall enjoyed Prime 2 more.

The only game I can think of that hasn't been listed is Star Wars: Battlefront 2. Both games were great, and BF1 will have a special place in my heart, but BF2 is better. Now it isn't that obvious, and it's not too dramatic either. They mostly just improved things.

They improved combat, improved vehicles, improved weapons, and et cetera. The campaign wasn't too shabby either.

I can think of a couple, easy.
Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door was absolutely better than the original in nearly every way. Better battle system, better locations, better story, better graphics etc. The only thing bad is the weak difficulty.
Pokemon as a series has also gotten better. Each one added something great to make Pokemon deeper and have a bit more strategy. The only problem is that sometimes it changes too little.
and then Wario Land 3. Way better than 1 and 2 in so many ways, like TTYD.

Portal 2 was much better than Portal 1 (but I won't hate if you like Portal 1 more than Portal 2) because it was much more fleshed out than Portal 1 (which was, I believe, a "stocking stuffer", so that's why it's very short and had low production values, but don't get me wrong, Portal is still a good game); Better levels, better story, and definitely funnier (Wheatley and Cave Johnson are a riot).

There's other games that I have played that are much better than its predecessors. Mighty Switch Force! 2, SaASRT, Sonic 3 and Knuckles, and pretty much every Pokemon generation after 1 (Generation 1 is fun, but it's way too broken).

Spyro 2 (its name is Spyro: Ripto's Rage in North America, and Spyro: Gateway to Glimmer in Europe, I call it 2 because of different names in different regions, and it is the second installment) defenitly. I much prefer the new engine (or at least pyshics) in the second over the first as now I can jump while charging and still get a good jump height, I can turn faster while charging, I get a boost in hieght at the end of a glide by pressing triangle (called a hover), there is a gem locator (by pressing and holding R1+R2+L1+L2) to find those pesky last few gems, and the useless side-roll was removed. It also adds extra objectives to levels other than just complete them and collect its gems, there are orb challenges which add some variety to the game, though finding solidified dragons is no longer nessesary. Add some abilitys and powerups (and a 100% completion reward) with some skill points, and it just blows the original away. The second by far improved the game to just a simple and boring platformer to a much more interesting and fun platformer.

And yes, I'm posting this game because of nastalgia.

I would have to say Mario Kart 7 and 8 are both much better than Mario Kart Wii. Although I don't have Mario Kart 8 since I don't have a Wii U yet, I have seen enough gameplay to say that it looks a lot more promising than Mario Kart Wii, the graphics are better, the gameplay is smoother and it isn't as frustrating to control and put up with.

As for Mario Kart 7, I really like the online play more than I did for the wii version, sure you can't get around people hacking because it is bound to happen, but it is still better than on Mario Kart wii because you don't get disconnected as much, and the gameplay itself isn't as laggy either.

Overall, both of them are far better than Mario Kart wii in my opinion, and I hope that they continue to push the games to come further and further past its limit.

Zombiegone : That's a cool thread! Super Smash Bros Brawl, it's better than Melee and the original. It has more characters, new stages and true story mode! Plus they remixed lots of themes from the past Nintendo games! Check my SSBB review for more info

Let me see. I think I have plenty of games that fit for this, but some that come to mind specifically are: Uncharted 2, Yakuza 4, Tales of Xillia (Well, can't necessarily call this a direct-sequel per-say, but it is a much later game in the Tales series and has some major combat improvements), God Eater 2, and Persona 4.

This may be an unpopular opinion, but I think that Metroid Prime 2: Echoes added on to what was already fantastic in the first game. More atmosphere, stronger story, better boss battles, the list goes on and on. Both are amazing games, but I find 2 to be the superior entry.

Personally I find that Doom 2 was better than its predecessor due to the fact that Doom 1,which I consider to be an amazing game that lacks changes needed to make the game more fun. I think that the levels in Doom 2 although sometime repetitive and more difficult to navigate through gives the game much more of a challenge and it shows just how much fun the game is. I also like that the game has more levels unlike doom 1 which has 4 episode(Depending on which version you have Doom/or Ultimate Doom). Although Doom 2 has only 2 episodes their is about 33+ levels in the game.

Thank you for listening Benitez17

I also like that the game has more levels unlike doom 1 which has 4 episode(Depending on which version you have Doom/or Ultimate Doom). Although Doom 2 has only 2 episodes their is about 33+ levels in the game.
