Spiro: A Hero's Tail?

Okay originally I was going to review Crash Wrath of Cortex but Dark power 508 did a brilliant review and I'm not that good (All hail our dark powered lord and review savior). So I decided to do another nostalgic game from my first console the Play station 2: Spiro A hero's tail.Althugh is it really a Hero's tail? I guess Purple Dragon against Bigger red dragon tail doesn't have the same ring to it, anyway the story.  The world needs a hero and is holding up for hero till the end of the night because dark gems are being planted by a evil red dragon called... Red what's his rival called blue? And your job is to destroy these dark gems and collect light gems. A simple yet effective story which anyone can follow even me! (And I thought Spiro enter the dragonfly was a great game as a kid so I was clearly not all there!). Throughout the game you learn more and more about red and how/why he did what he did I would spoil it but I feel like it's entertaining enough so I'll leave it to you,or you could just use Google.

Alright I'm getting off topic let's cover the game play. There's the usual charge jump glide fire and so forth but the game also teaches you how to double jump double, jump slam,  use your wings as a shield, pole swing and wall jump.Howeveer the combat can get repetitive but don't worry the game remedies this,or tries to, by adding different breaths the player can use the long slow killing electric breath, useless water breath and last but far from least the frost breath which freezes your enemies (mind blown!) but requires you to charge into your frozen foe afterwards so straight from the word go you have as far as combat goes, the best breath in the game although sometimes you need to charge their amour off then attack them but you can kill most of your obstacles with ease. That isn't really fair electric and water are used outside of combat and if you get enough light gems you unlock suits that help you avoid or in combat but these segments are few and far between. It wouldn't be a Spiro game without mini-games so you have hunter missions were you get to shoot an arrow punch and spin your bow and ground pound simple but I had fun with it and the game hopes you did too because the game forces you to play him at one point. We also have a mole who is the same voice as Ben 10 blow up mission spark rail shooter missions and Sergeant bird missions were you fly about shooting targets- birds guards literal targets etc. There are also turret parts as well as a ball mode were you get to roll around and bounce around like a pinball.

The boss battles are good with unique designs thanks to the epic graphics, but forgettable although red can be stunned by your electric breath which is hilarious Spiro used thunder shock it's super effective! The first boss battle has you dodging hit's and burning it's underpants L.O.L! But in all fairness the boss fights are at least decent, it also pulls the Mario level effect being that you start at a grassy plains area then you go to another element themed area and the enemies get different outfits like Eskimo for example so the boss fight has a certain theme like a ugly mermaid. One of my main gripes with this game is how your health works (can't remember if it was in the other games). Your health is tracked by sparks he starts yellow goes to blue then green then to red if you buy the upgrade with your gems and then to you by yourself then to death but you can replenish your health by eating butterflies which roam around the main areas but in boss fights they drop in occasionally most of time right by me when I get hit for the first time and I use it when I really didn't want to.

Another main mechanic is that gems are used as currency to warp, buy keys for chests and locked doors this, I liked this it made me feel like my gems were worth something and worth collecting you can also buy bombs which are equipped to your breaths and I would use it wonder why I don't use them more often but then I forget about them again so I went back to charging blindly like a man at my enemies again. Plus the techniques that aren't the wall kick and pole swing I also forgot about in combat so I spent hours on the final boss desperately trying to defeat him and get a review out on time but he would kill me again and again and again.

So despite it's major frustrating parts I still play it to this day mainly through nostalgia but who knows, so try it but I don't blame you if you hate it but for me it's worth one play through (plus the slightly camp one is the one to teach you how to swing on poles!). Seven point eight out of ten next review coming soon because the critic wants to enjoy his holiday and study for tests.

Really nice review. This was one of the few games I played growing up and I loved it too. Nice details grammar and length.
