In most cases I think the live audiences make the show more awkward. Like sometimes they will tell a joke that misses and there is that kind of awkward pause for laughter, but no ones laughing.

There are only a couple of shows that i watch that have live audiences, and that is because it works. Otherwise, i go with non-live audiences because live audiences have a tendency to over react to something, and their reactions to the scenes are often greater then the scenes is supposed to be, ruining the moment.

I remember a sitcom on Fox back in the 90s that went with a live audience but I don't think it lasted long. I don't really have a preference as to whether a sitcom is taped or live I just wish there were more of them on television currently. Some of the reality shows aren’t too bad but I just think that sitcoms are more entertaining than most reality shows.
I assume that the reason most sitcoms are taped is because of the potential for outtakes and if you’ve seen some of the sitcoms that have been released on DVD some are hilarious…
