So, I know some people have noticed my lack of activity over the last month or so. This is because my wife and I just bought our first house.

We moved 1 week ago today so we are in it right now. We're still unpacking and organizing everything so it will be a while before I show up regularly still but we're getting there.

Feel free to ask me whatever questions you want. I'll answer pretty much anything except questions about price

tgags123 : we were living in a townhouse before. If you don't know what that is it's basically a bunch of houses in a row side by side (with no space in between). It wasn't a bad place but we were renting and now we own. And we now have a real backyard and everything which is nice.

I really cannot relate since I have no experience in owning a house, but I know what you mean. I feel a lot more free (for lack of a better word) at my mom's, which is an actual house. You don't need to worry about annoying the people in the homes next to you.

exactly! and we had some annoying neighbours living next to us. Not sure what they were watching but they played it so loud sometimes we could hear it almost clearly through the wall. We also had pot smoking neighbours too.

Not that I think we don't have either of those now but we have the space between us so it's harder to notice.

And we are likely staying here 5-10 years minimum. If we can put a room in the basement for one of the girls to sleep in then we will stay here even longer. Just depends on how much space we have/need. I imagine we will move though because I have 3 daughters and I want more than 2 bathrooms to accommodate them.

legacyme3 : Why don't you want to share pricing?  I'm curious as to the square footage, the yard size, the area, etc.  Housing prices are an excellent mark for local and larger economies.

Also, do you have a basement egress?  If you don't, it's illegal to put a room in for sleeping.  it's against fire codes and you put your daughters at risk.

warmaker : the rules where I live (as far as I know) is that the windows in the basement have to be a certain size. I've had a house fire when I lived with my parents so I learned all the rules for where I live.

as for other questions: I just don't talk about money. It's a personal thing. I think it's just under 1300 square feet (top 2 floors), yard is pie shaped and really big, we're out in the suburbs basically.

At my step mom's house we put in a huge fence around the back yard where the dogs can roam and my niece can play on her swing set.  This way we don't have to worry about the dogs getting out and strangers getting our niece.  The fence has made our home more secure and also more free at the same time.
