its probably a technical mistake. since NES games were primitive, these games were WIDE open for mistakes like this, so it's normal. This one doesn't exactly harm the game. if this helped, PM me along w/the viz, if possible.

i've played it before and i've seen it happen, but nothing really bad happened to the game or the character.

It's like in double dragon III when there's so many characters on the screen, the people flash. like the "link stabbing himself" glitch, it's harmless.

marioisawesome said Link's Awakening. Thats on the GameBoy, not the Nes.
It depends how mario was playing the game.
If using the RGR it would have been a java bug, net lag or just because the java emulators don't run 100% like a real GB, if using a rom it would have been a system specification or settings problem if using VBA, if on a real GB then it would have been that there were too many things on the screen for the GBs processor to handle.

It's almost the same principle. Game boy and NES were both primitive and their processors didn't have a lot of power. If there's too much crud on the screen, they can't keep up. Compare it with a game with like, 8-10 people on the screen, and the same game with 2 people. There's a big difference.
