What shows do you think should stop or have better scripts because they are getting progressively worse? 

One such show was Eureka. I loved the first season and most of the second season, but the time reversals, editing, and restarts really got annoying. Especially when it came to relationships between characters. (The first time it was unique, but it got tiring after that). I would even say that my favorite TV show The Big Bang Theory started declining after the characters all got into relationships. I miss their old exploits that were really funny without the (excessive) drama. What about you?

Well Family Guy is not as funny anymore for some reason. I think because it has been going on for so long that it has run out of jokes.

Hmm....hard to say, there are some shows on Disney channel I know of. Which once was good but, just changed the whole storyline from how they were and such.... Tv, I dunno anymore about it that's why I am on my laptop watching old school stuff. Because shows are not great nowadays and just are terrible.

awesomeguy279 : That's the problem I've seen with most comedy shows. They start out really funny, but when a plot line develops it becomes boring. When there's no plot-line, the jokes still become boring. The only way I get around that is by switching between shows every few episodes so no one show gets old. 

Eniitan, there are several older shows that I think are much better than contemporary shows. So many channels are simply trying to increase popularity instead of making a show with a nice idea and sticking with it. 

Disney, especially, has been going all over the place from what I read on another thread.

I don't watch that much tv, but one example I can think of is walking dead. I think it's still a good show, I really enjoyed the first 3 seasons, but it seems it's dropping off on season 4. The acting seems a bit more pushed, or maybe it's just the inevitable repetitive nature plot-wise of a zombie apocalypse scenario.

As far as shows that have progressively gotten better over time, I'd say Dr. Who, I thought the first couple of series were horrible, but they definitely got much better later on.

I have been seeing this with the Simpsons for the last couple of years. The new episodes are not what they used to be when the show came out. They don't really seem as funny as they did back then, but it's still a really good show that keeps people hooked.

I think Avatar: The Last Airbender was one such show.  The end of the first season was great, and everything was set up well for future seasons.  The future seasons introduced some great plot elements and character development, but the endings were so forced and rushed that they seriously disappointed.  TLOK has learned from its predecessor a bit, but still featured confusing finales.  I think the creators are trying to do too much with the show, so that their jumbles of ideas never quite reach fruition.

So many. I couldn't count them all or this post would be long and unreadable. I'll focus on two. 

Doctor Who and Supernatural. I love both of them, and I've been watching basically since I was old enough to hold a sonic screwdriver. But they are turning to absolute crap. 

Steven Moffat's directing has absolutely destroyed everything important about Doctor Who. I'm at the point where I want one of two things to happen. Either the show abruptly ends, or a new director is found. 

Supernatural (going into it's 10th season btw) is equally crazy. I swear, every insane thing that a character can go through has happened to Sam and Dean Winchester, and I'm at the point where I just want their stories to be wrapped up.

It's just really painful to see shows you love take such a sharp decline.

Oh there are quite a few, a few that pop into mind though are: The Simpsons, Family Guy, South Park, and The Walking Dead. The Simpsons, Family Guy, and South Park are all comedy shows, so it doesn't surprise me that the material is becoming bland. I used to love them, but now I can barely bring myself to watch them anymore. Well, I guess South Park does have its moments, but it just doesn't make me laugh anymore. The Walking Dead is in a different boat (sort of). While, yes, the thought of a zombie apocalypse rampant with death is overused, I originally enjoyed the show. As of late, however, it seems as if the whole show has become stale, and they are dragging out pieces of the show that should really be finished quickly. I'm sure some people agree with me on this, but generally, I can't find very many people that think The Walking Dead has become boring. 

There are so many shows that I think are slowly going down hill. I used to love the big bang theory but now I feel its just not as good as it used to be. The Simpsons, family guy, Glee are others that I feel are not what they used to be. To be honest I think that now days shows are often kept running long past their 'natural self life'.. With plot lines that are not true to the what the shows should be about. Whilst some people love that they are kept on the air, to me I think they should just end on a high, before they become boring and stale.

Walking dead is getting worse, and that is a sad news.... But I'm glad there is Walking dead comics so it's not that big deal. Just hoping they wont ruin the series too badly, but it seems they are. :/

The Big Bang Theory. I mean, it's still a fun show to watch now and then, but it got so bad compared to the first seasons.
I mean, first Leonard. At the beginning, he was this fun, dork who had trouble even talking to a girl. Now, he's pretty much a Casanova who gets any women he wants. The change is so big, it pretty much the complete opposite of the character that got me into the show.

Second off, relationships. Like I said before, every character used to be this nerd that couldn't even get a girl for a minute. Now, pretty much every character has a girlfriend, and every episode is about them dealing with a problem related to it. It's always "Oh, girls, girls, girls..." It gets annoying. I mean, what was wrong with the nerdy characters?

I mean, it's still a good show, but if they continue this way, in a couple of seasons it will go very downhill.

I would honestly have to say that just about every cartoon show is getting progressively worse, cartoon network, nickelodeon and Disney is probably the worst of all. This is the exact reason why I have pretty much stopped watching tv altogether, because the quality has just gone straight down the toilet all around. Shows like spongebob are complete garbage now, as well as most of the shows on nick and cartoon network, the only exception being cartoon network because I like that show and it is pretty funny. 


So if you want my honest answer, I would say most tv is just going downhill in general, but that is my opinion on the matter. 

Since most people have already mentioned it... I can't even bring myself to watch today's cartoons. I don't even understand how today's generation can stomach them.  Not only are they insanely stupid, but they're full of really crass stuff. Who in the world finds that junk funny???  I think the fact that today's generation can be humored by that is really a sign of the lowering of intelligence over the passage of time.

However, if we're discussing particular shows?  I feel it could be safe to say that most shows fill this description eventually.  Hell's Kitchen, even though I still watch it... is just one of them. It used to put so much more emphasis on the food, but now it seems to mainly be about scripted drama.

There are other prime examples, but I can't recall them right now.

Two and a half men. Ever since the first two stars left, the show just jumped the shark and ain't even worth keeping around for another season.

SPONGE BOB
If you like the new spongebob, you are crazy. That stuff just hurts. As someone who was in love with the show when I was young, it hurts to see what they have done to it. The humor isn't even funny anymore, and it just makes no sense. They also killed all plot to the show, and all the depth that was in the characters in the beginning of the show. If they could just fix the mistakes they have made, I wish they would. For the last 5 years (which really did seems like only a little while ago) the show started going down and went farther and farther down. They would need about 25 more episodes that were as good as 'Idiot box' I would be a fan again. But they would need to keep that up. I was a huge fan, and now i Just what it to end before they kill it off completely.

I will second The Big Bang Theory. I used to like it, and then felt that it was losing quality. I honestly wish I could go back to the good old days, but I can't. The show is over for me. There is also The Walking Dead. I honestly liked it for the full first season, and then we got to the second season, and I slowly started hating it. I tried to watch the third season, hoping they would redeem themselves, but I ended up thinking it was even worse than the second season.

I rarely ever find myself laughing Family Guy anymore. The show just isn't the same as it used to be. I don't get excited when a new episode comes out on Sundays anymore. They've just run out of ideas now. They have those few really good jokes throughout the episode but overall it's just boring. I think they should just have one more season then cancel. Maybe focus on more American Dad or a new show.

Avatar the last airbender was a good series. Then the legend of Korra came by and a romantic triangle was spit right into your face in the second episode. Never a good sign. (Don't even get me started on that movie, oh dear god.)

Also a big one is spongebob. They might come out with truly maybe 2 good episodes a year, but the decline started around 2007 and lots of the episodes as of late have been abysmally non funny and almost all jokes are overused or slapstick, and some of the episode topics have already been covered so early when the series began that the producers try to reuse them and you end up with the same episodes only crappier.
