Ever been wandering around looking for torrent sites to join but have no idea whats good, whats bad, or what sites are even open for registration?
Don't know how to do something or need more seeders?
Feel free to talk about anything to do with torrents, hints, tips, torrent sites, request sites for a particular genre, rate sites, or just announce any news like freeleech events, open registrations or program updates.

Well, lets see how we go. Heres one for starters.
AnimeByt.es, an anime torrent tracker at http://animebyt.es/ is having its first open signup.
AnimeByt.es is a private torrent tracker that specializes in anime, manga, Japanese music (J-music), games, live action series and official soundtracks (OST).
It is currently open, but it probally will be closing registrations in a day or 3.
Anyone who signs up gets 3GB of bonus uploads and 2 free invites (so you can let your friends in )

It seems small-ish right now, but looks pretty good and shows potential for future growth.

I go to PiratesBay for all their torrents, though I quit a while ago. Guess I got everything I needed from there.

The problem with TPB is ever since the lawsuit against them alot of people using their tracker conveiniently have been sued by different film companies.

TPB: sellouts to hollywood so that they didnt have to repay their huge fines?
It's a little too coincedental for my likings.

you can use that site to search for torrents and it'll give you a listing of all the torrent sites that have the torrent you're looking for and you can pick the one you like best.

You can also get a list of all the trackers that are associated with the torrent you've grabbed so that you get all the seeds that you possible can for that torrent.

oh, another torrent site that has been down for a while but has recently (Dec 13th) come back online is Demonoid.com. It's been down for almost 2 months I think. Maybe more.

It's back up though. It's one of the places I frequent when looking for stuff.

If it was up it's either down again or Australian access is blocked, I can't seem to get to it.
Did they scrap the accounts? Will people have to register again?

last I heard they managed to salvage everything from before September... anything after that is gone so if you had an account before that then you should be fine. And it's still working for me. Not sure what the problem is.

Edit: Yep, I still have my account, which is very good especially now that Mininova has become a peice of garbage and doesnt mirror the Demonoid links (or anything good at all) anymore.

I like mininova, the piratebay, and overget.

ok darkhyren i got your pm and will post m,y question here.is seeding safe? do i have a greater chance of being caught if i do that? can it hurt my pc in any way? also i have heard that organizations such as MPAA and RIAA catch people by downloading torrents and recording ll the ip adresses that are using that torrent, and then find out which isp they have and report them, then the isp either caps you or threatens to cut off your internet, or just cuts it off.is that true and is there a way (maybe thru demonoid) to not have this happen?

seeding is completely safe. All you're doing is uploading the file that you've just downloaded to other people using the torrent. It's not possible to harm your computer by seeding.

As for getting caught.... that's pretty unlikely. I've been using torrents for years and have never been caught. Just be sure to be low key. Dont download very much and don't download new, copyrighted stuff and you should have no problem.

ok thanks for that info. i usually dont download brand new things, alvin and the chipmunks2 and that new scooby do cartoon movie are basically it(yes i am really 17 but i am a kid at heart.)

So long as you use safe torrent sites like Demonoid and full private trackers your information is safe and you are anonymous for the most part, though as I mentioned before you can take extra steps to further protect yourself.
From the µTorrent site, about encryption:

Enabling Protocol Encryption
Some ISPs (Internet Service Providers) actively interfere with P2P activities in order to reduce their bandwidth requirements. This causes µTorrent and other file sharing download speeds to become slow. To avoid this, µTorrent and other clients have introduced an encryption protocol to prevent ISPs from identifying BitTorrent traffic.

Go to Options > Preferences > BitTorrent. Set Outgoing under Protocol Encryption to Enable, check "Allow incoming legacy connections".

The other thing that doesn't mention is that it adds an extra layer of anonymity, hiding some more of your details.
You can also go even futher to hide yourself if you're really paranoid, but I don't think it's really needed.

Be extremely careful around em. Or just don't use em. I know people who got a letter in the mail saying that if they seeded another thing from the torrent they were using (uTorrent at the time) that they would go to court and go to jail, no questions asked. But its not just that torrent. I think its all torrents. So either be careful or just don't use em at all. My best advice would be to not use them at all, actually...

Just rent a movie from your local library. Same thing's accomplished, and most importantly, the library is COMPLETELY LEGAL. Safe if I've ever seen safe. Lol.

But yeah. Torrents are bad. And apparently illegal from what geeogree is saying here.

Well I wouldn't get all paranoid about it, theres nothing wrong with downloading here and there, but excessively is what usually will lead you into a troubled situation with the law. I have couple dozen friends who have used Limewire and such for years, downloading like crazy, and never had a problem with anyone or anything for it. It's basically a hit and miss for the most part but the best way to stay under the radar is by not downloading illegal files and such excessively. But back to the real topic of this thread because it seemed to fall off topic there for awhile with the whole discussion of them being illegal and what not....

Honestly, if one uses Protocol Encryption (detailed above) and doesnt download from public sites and bad sites (for example, Pirate bay falls in both of those categories) then you are fine, even if you download "illegal" files.
Not that anyone here is talking about doing that.

For those that like anime, I must recommend http://www.bakabt.com/
It is one of the better semi-private sites I have used.
Most everything it has is completely fine to download as they respect current statute limitations.
So if you are after some of the latest Japanese anime or other anime released in the US from 5 or more years ago, check them out.
They even have some newer stuff, where the distribution company had allowed it.

Be sure to check out their range of BluRay quality downloads, they are top notch and also always freeleech, so they won't hurt your ratio
