I'm not sre what I'll do since these are getting less and less entries. I'll either halve the prize money, or have them last 2 months.

Nah, don't bother donating. Because I don't actually use my own Viz for the prize money, that isn't the problem.
It's just that it's a bit weird giving so much Viz when you actually have a 50% chance of getting some.

That's probably because of the fact that in 2 out of 3 contests the judges chose some odd winners.

Yeah, prepare for a long post that may offend a lot of people.

The winner was Aznjohn, and I can see why there's some extraordinary shading and attention to detail here.

And second place was Juliet, and I can see why, there's loads of anti-aliasing problems and it looks like it was made in paint, which it was. I mean of course it would win over the hand-drawn original take on a character one and the one that actually manages to make something decent in paint, obviously.

The winner was Reaper and the runner up was Juliet.

Now I can see why my girlfriend's entry didn't get a place, entering someone by proxy is kinda weird, but no mentioning of it at all? Even after allowing it? Yeah sure whatever.

Next then, Reaper winning makes sense, it's a good drawing with shading and all that, and of course Juliet takes second again, with a drawing with no shading, no good line art, no originality, and no pose before a drawing of a majestic lion that has near perfect shading and line art except for one eye.

Yeah, that makes sense.


And you wonder why you don't get any entrants.

Edit: Oh and I didn't make this post to somehow get the results taken back, I just wanted to know what the judges reasoning was when they chose the winners. Because I sure can't understand it.

Simple fix.. get more judges (not hard to do).. The judges including myself have different opinions of art.. one might like something more than another. Just like your "objections" come from your opinions aswell. I voted your girlfriends #1 through a pm but I gave a backup #1 incase it wasnt counted. Your girlfriends artwork got plenty of feedback too, does it have to be official feedback?

That's the thing, it's all about opinions. That's what I want to know, WHY the winners won, not who.

The reasoning behind the result.

So DM would you be a judge if we have another art comp?
Cause you seem to have a pretty objective opinion and you also seem good at pointing out technique.
And you also made a very good point in your post, cause I've also been wondering how the judges pick the winners.
