Pokémon Fire Red and Leaf Green
Chapter Ten: The Rogue Golbat and its
Secret

A drop of water from the ice in Red’s
knapsack trickled down my cheek. It tickled my nose, causing me to sneeze and
wake myself up. I bolted straight up, banging my head on a branch above me.
“Ouch!” I realized I was seeing with only one eye. I got nervous and motioned
my hand towards the one I wasn’t seeing anything with. “W-what the…” Then I
remembered Red’s knapsack was on it the whole time, with the melting ice inside
it to heal my black eye. I sighed in relief. How could I have forgotten? Then,
I began to wonder how the four of us could ever travel as a group anymore. It
would be selfish, though to disband only because of Blue and I.

“Yo, Yellow!” I heard someone call. I
bobbed my head to the left to find Red and Leaf skipping over to me, and Blue
treading along slowly behind them. I backed away a few inches. Then, they
arrived. Red and Leaf looked next to them. “Ahem. Blue?” Blue rolled his and
walked over to me. “I’m sor- ugh…” He face-palmed. Leaf nudged his shoulder.
“Ugh, fine. I’m… sorry. For, uh… you know. So, like, could I still train you
or… o-or something?” I thought long and hard. I made a little frown. Something
like what he did could not be so easily forgiven. I sighed. “Fine. Since I have
to call you ‘Master Blue’, anyway.” He smiled and hit my back. “Thanks, Yellow!
You’re a good sport!” I felt the presence of Red and Leaf in the whole thing
might have affected the conversation. Thank goodness for that!

I got up and adjusted my had. I removed
Red’s knapsack from my now better eye and returned it to him. “Thanks.” He put the
ice tray, the nylon bags for the peanut-butter sandwhiches, the lemonade jug,
and his Pokéballs back inside. I paused. “Wait – where are our Pokémon?!” Red,
Blue, and Leaf gasped. Red noticed his Pokéballs were empty, and Leaf
frantically searched in her yellow back. “Oh, no. Oh, no…” she muttered. Blue
checked in all pockets of his small, yellow bag that was strapped around his
waist. “This is bad. This is really bad!” Leaf began hyperventilating. “Charmy!
Pidgey!” Red yelled. “Squirt! Metapod!” called Leaf. “Bulba! Geo!” Blue
shouted. I looked over to my shoulder. Pika was still there sound asleep.

I felt sorry for my friends. “You guys
did leave them right about here, right?” They all nodded. “Yeah.” There was no
other explanation. “That solves it, then. They were stolen.” Their eyes
widened. “Whoever had the nerve to take my Bulbasaur and Geodude is asking for
it,” threatened Blue to nothing, rolling up his short sleeve. “Let’s move on,” I
suggested. “They probably headed towards that cave.” They all nodded. “Right.”

We all headed towards the dark
cave. Pika started emitting electricity from its cheeks. I petted him. “Don’t
worry, Pika. This isn’t going to end up like last time.” It stopped charging
its Thunder Bolt, but it still stood guard. The four of us were dashing to the
cave entrance, and were about to enter until a racing Golbat flew out and
scratched Red in the face. “Ouch!” he yelled, cupping his face, nearly tumbling
backwards. But Leaf caught him. “Are you alright?” Red slowly got up. He
grunted. “N-no… I don’t think so- Ouch!” he yelled once more. Leaf searched
through Red’s knapsack. She got out a first aid kit and patched up his face
with bandages. “How could a Golbat scratch you, anyway?” I asked. “It’s not
like it has claws or something.” Red turned around. “Golbats’ mouths are always
open, Yellow. Its fangs must’ve scratched my face as it was zooming by.” “Oh.”

To my surprise, Golbat flew by once more,
and snatched my hat! “Hey!” I yelled, clutching and hiding by ponytail. My face
was red as a tomato. Leaf knew how I must’ve felt in the situation, and she
rushed to me fast, throwing her hat to me for the time being. She winked. I
sighed in relief and put it on. I was lucky. It was aiming for my face. That
Golbat wasn’t flying around us for no reason. “Yo!” Blue called to the Pokémon.
“Do us a favor and get the heck out of our faces, eh?” Golbat frowned and raced
down to him, now. “Oh, crud…” he muttered, dodging its Bite attack. I couldn’t
let this go on. “Pika! Electro Ball! Now!” Pika turned to me and nodded in
trust. “Pika…. CHU!!!” Golbat was barbecued, and it crashed to the ground. “We
better find out who this Golbat belongs to.” I thought. “Whoever it is wants us
out of their way, that’s for sure…” We continued into the cave, standing our
guard.

We noticed a sign. “Welcome to Mount
Moon,” was written on it. “This site is littered with rare Fossils and
minerals. Only authorized personnel are permitted to mine these. Beware of
rogue Pokémon.” Leaf gulped, and we all walked further into the cave, uneasily.
I was holding Pika tight. Then, a dark figure drew near. Red went in front of
Leaf, Blue and I, protecting us. “Who goes there?” he asked, without a hint of
fear in his voice. Then, the figure walked closer, and it turned out to be a
man in a black suit and hat. His shirt had a red “R” symbol on it, and he was
carrying whip. A sad looking Golbat was hovering next to his head. Blue recognized
it. “You’re that Golbat who was attacking us earlier, aren’t you?” The Golbat
looked even sadder, and even guilty. The four of us noticed that it had rashes
and painful-looking marks on its back. Then, we looked at the whip the guy was
holding. “You’re beating him,” Leaf concluded. “You sent him to prevent us from
entering the cave. Why?” Red, Blue and I were astounded by Leaf’s bravery. “You’re
up to no good.”
