Intro- Sostegaria... For over a millennium the fertile lands in the heart of this vast continent were ruled by the Holy Ashah Dynasty, descendants of Toroah the Messiah. However, it is man's doom to forget... A midst all the wealth and exotic pleasures, the nobility lost their way and sank into corruption and depravity, forgetting even the holy teachings of Toroah. It was in these days of unrest that the citizens, struggling under an oppressive regime, rose up and -- under the leadership of Arris the Sage -- took up arms against the Kingdom. That was the first outbreak of violence in what would later be known simply as 'The Revolution.' The Royal Army's counterattack was swift and fierce, but time and time again they were put to flight by the cunning strategies of Arris and the indomitable will of the advancing Liberation Army. Victory in hand, the rebels set up a Council and worked to establish the continent's first democracy. And so, the republic of 'Ishtaria' was born. However, Arris the Sage, whom all hoped would lead the country, mysteriously vanished and has not been seen again to this day. Now, 15 years later, the shadow of war once again threatens Ishtaria... Welcome to Vandal Hearts. This game is very similar to Final Fantasy Tactics, if you have ever played it, but with a little better story line. You begin the adventure with Ash Lambert of the Black Wind. He is accompanied by Diego Renault and Clint Picard. Throughout the game you will meet many more allies, such as Eleni Dunbar, Huxley Hobbes, Kira Wulfstan, Grog Drinkwater, Dolan, Amon, Sara, Zohar Abu Sa'id, and Darius. Throughout the entire game you will face many enemies such as Kane, Dallas, Xeno, Zoot, and the main boss being Dolf, a man in love with death.
Graphics- The graphics are a 3D Strategy RPG. You move each player in the manner of chess, and attack the opposing team until they are all eliminated. Take heed, if you are looking for amazing graphics, this is not for you. It is for Playstation 1.
Sounds- To be honest, a little repetitious, but a good soundtrack all in all. They have mixtures of violin and piano stacked with computer made instrumentals for a fun yet entertaining gameplay.
Addictive- The game is absolutely fun. With multiple character selection pathways to customize and advance the characters, you could play it more than twenty different ways. There is the Champion class, which is the main character's class. The Swordsman and Guardsman which Clint, Grog, and Dolan are allowed into. The Sniper and Sky Lord which Diego, Kira, Amon, and Darius can go into. The Healer and Monk which Huxley and Sara can transform into, and the Mage class which Eleni and Zohar can go into. Eleni and Zohar can also go into the Monk class.
Story- Based off of the 1200's with magic included, you are Ash and his friends trying to take over the corrupt society in which Ishtaria has found itself in. Throughout the game you will battle opposing enemies, and friends, and try to restore peace once more even when faced against the most powerful weapon of all, The Flames of Judgement.
Depth- This game is pretty deep, at least for a normal Playstation game. You can expect at least 20 hours of gameplay, unless you speed through the game. There is bonus material to advance Ash into the greatest class in the game, The Vandalier. In this form Ash is allowed to cast every single spell in the game, plus have his stats boosted to ridiculous amounts.
Difficulty- To be honest, this game is rather diffficult at first. Especially to beat the game without anyone dying which awards you with The Master Ending. All in all, you have to think very strategically to beat the game.
Overall [Conclusion]- This game is ranked so highly because of its versatility and ability to be played over and over and experience differences in team play and whatnot. I would highly recommend anyone who has played Final Fantasy Tactics to try this game out. Also, if you would just like a very deep story line and a time to get out of the world for awhile, this is your cue. Try it out, and live the Legacy.
