Introduction: Kirby's Adventure is a side-scrolling platform game for the Nintendo Entertainment System. Kirby, a pink piece of bubblegum, will be the protagonist in this game. He uses his atomic super inhale breath to inhale enemies and steal their powers. He sets out to find the seven pieces of the Dream Rod, and retrieve them back from King Dedede and his six minions, and return them back to their rightful place, in the Fountain of Dreams. Kirby will have to travel to 7 different worlds, defeating all the levels within the worlds, as well as King Dedede's six minions. Now, without further ado, let's jump right into the review! Graphics: The graphics in this game are very bland and unappealing. Depending on which world, you will have a certain texture dealing with the name of the world. Some levels just have a scrambled mess of pixels repeated throughout the entire stage. After a while, it really wares out on your eyes. Kirby is very distinct in color in comparison to the other enemies as well as the background. Most of the enemies are a similar color. The game doesn't really give you much of a variety of color, so that's a downer. The creators of this game got real lazy with the graphics in this game, so for that, I will rate the graphics an average 5/10, and that is being very generous. Sound: There really isn't much in the way of music in this game. Each world has their own tunes for the levels, and it really gets annoying after a while. Sometimes I just wanted to bash my head into the wall because the levels were so long and I had to listen to the same song repeated. The boss music is really dull and lifeless. Boss music should get you pumped and want to defeat the boss. Take Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: The Manhattan Project for example, that had some great music in it, as well as the boss stages. So, for mediocre music, annoying repeated songs, and a lack of interest for the music, I will rate the music a 4/10. Addictiveness: To tell you the truth, I really had a fun time playing this game the first time. Sure, it was short, but I really liked how the game played and the controls were fluent. This game isn't like Super Mario Bros where you always want to replay it. This game is one of those games where you play it once, then you are done. But, now that I look back on it, it really didn't age that well. All the enemies were the same and didn't have any variety. The bosses were laughably easy, especially the last final bosses. The game didn't increase in difficulty after a certain amount of time. But, we will talk about difficulty in that segment. I have to say though, Kirby's ability to steal an enemy's ability is pretty cool. One of my favorites has to be the sword ability or the UFO ability. Just to become a UFO is awesome, yet dumb at the same time haha. I also like that Kirby can float like a balloon if you press the up arrow on the D-Pad. That was pretty cool. Anyways, if I were to go back and replay this, oh wait, I wouldn't. So for that, I gave the addictiveness a 4/10. Story: So, the story starts out like this. Kirby wakes up from his afternoon nap, and realized that he didn't have any dreams. That's pretty strange to me because how are you supposed to know if you had any dreams or not? Anyways, he goes to check the Fountain of Dreams and finds that King Dedede has stolen the Star Rod. The Star Rod is the source of the Fountain of Dreams. King Dedede has broken it into seven pieces, and distributed it among his minions. Which are, Whispy Woods, Paint Roller, Mr. Shine and Mr. Bright, Kracko, Heavy Mole, and Meta Knight. He has also kept one piece to himself, so that adds up to seven, yay I can count! So, Kirby has to go through all seven worlds, and defeat all King Dedede's minions, then he can regain all the pieces to the Star Rod, place it back in the Fountain of Dreams, then he can dream again. To me, that is a pretty stupid plot. He has to go and get all of the pieces, just because he wants to dream again? Well, I guess this is targeted to the younger audience, but come on! You can't think of something more exciting than that? I am really disappointed with this story. Anyways, for this terribly bad story, I am giving it a 3/10. Depth: This game is as repetitive as can be. But, it is a sidescroller, so it is somewhat tolerable. But, there is no variety in the enemy choice. I mean come on, do I really want to be fighting the same enemies over and over? This game came out in 1993, the last leg of the NES and they couldn't come up with any other enemies? I am also really disappointed here with the lack of enemy choice. There really isn't that much more to say. I guess I can give some credit to the, uh, I can't think of anything. So, I rate the dept of this game a whaling 4/10. Difficulty: This game was laughably easy. The game is really short also. I can speed run this game in 5 minutes probably. Maybe I will try to do it here on vizzed. All the bosses are really easy to defeat, if you know what the pattern is. The levels are basically all the same, so you can pretty much expect what is coming up ahead. You can beat a single level within a minute and thirty seconds if you are good at it. I believe the first boss of the game is the tree where you just have to suck up the apples and spit them at the tree, then you have beaten it. All the bosses have the same difficulty, easy. Bottom line, the game is easy, you can do it with your eyes closed, I give the difficulty a 3/10. Overview: Kirby was a good game for it's time, but it was too easy. I am sure that a lot of people will agree with me also. It had some cool things implemented in it and a lot of flaws. I assume that they have fixed them in the later versions of the game. Sounds plain at best. Kirby's best feature is the multiplayer help system, but I don't know if that is available in this one or not. Maybe you could mention that and some of the options in your next review? Anyway, you did an alright job here. Keep on reviewing. |
