Armydude has a point, atleast with cats you don't need to take them on walks and they are pretty quiet. I enjoy silence With dogs you need a house and a yard so they can run around it, which I don't have.

cats are great for comfort like what armydude says and dogs are great for guardian. like a german shepperd (like what i have) yes they bark a lot but only whenever theres a stranger. we have an indooor cat, he;s really old and id be pretty sad once he dies.

id say i prefer cats.
1. they dont eat as much
2. have u ever seen a cat smile? one of the cutest thing ever (no lie)
3. usefull if ur house is infested with mice
4. playful, not to the point where u have to run around and stuff and get all sweaty.

Dogs are still good though. They make great companions, you can pet them without fear of getting scratched, & they're good protectors.

I personally prefere cats because they are smarter, cleaner and are natural hunters. Dogs are more trainable because they are more social animals than cats (which is likely why most people prefere dogs), but they tend to be quite filthy and are primarily scavangers (not nearly as cool).
