Well I like both but I'd rather have a cat only because it's more portable. But small dogs are fine substitutes. Also, Eddie Griffin likes cats better. Just wanted to bring that out in the open.

If dogs were a man's best friend, then how come people are more likely to have multiple cats in their house than multiple dogs? 56% of cat owners have more than one cat while only 37% of dog owners have more than one dog. Also, there are 88.3 million owned cats in the U.S. compared to only 74.8 million dogs

berserker2, you obviously haven't met any normal cats. And obedient? You need to send dogs to a school for weeks to get them to be obedient. Also, obedience can be a bad thing, as it is with dogfighting. And the average dog is no more useful than the average cat.

ikeshay, dogs are much more difficult to care for than cats. You need to take them out for walks multiple times a day and buy them a lot more food. Cats only require minutes of attention and don't bother you as much as dogs. Most dogs don't know more tricks than fetching and rolling over. Cats are also more fun to play with. You should see how they chase after laser pointers

But they aren't easier to take care of, they require more money and effort to care for...
And they can't learn that many tricks without spending extra money in obedience school, which cats don't need by the way

Yeah, I hate those with a passion too. The things I hate with cats walking around is that it's socially acceptable, despite a lot of cats causing damage on property when they walk around and claw stuff. Now I'm not saying dogs don't cause damage, I'm just saying that if my dog needs a leash then cats need a leash as well.

Because taking care of a dog comes with far more responsibility, it's not that feasible to have more than one dog in your house. Not that more than one is needed.

Oh no, not at all, you just need to take some time to be responsible about your pet and teach it things.

Geez people, you're starting to make cats sound like the lazyman's pet.

Not as far as commands like "sit" and "roll over" and such. Pets (cats and dogs, really) learn the word "no" without professional teaching through experience but other than understanding when they shouldn't do something (upon hearing "no"), they really don't listen

Ok Ziggy I'm just gonna do a quick little question here.

Have you ever had a dog? I have had plenty of dogs and I know for a fact that teaching them tricks is really simple. If you know what you're doing then there's no need at all for professional training, it's just a simple matter of treats when they do something good and yelling when they do something bad.
