On the SEGA screen when the background turns dark and Sonic appears, Quickly Press Up,Up,Down,Down,Up,Up,Up,Up you should hear a ring sound effect, then go Down twice (or Up once) There will be a Sound Test Option, Select it and you will be in the Zone Select of Sonic 3 (Part 1), You can play music from the game and select any Zone in the game. (To note that there are Zones in the Zone Select that cannot be selected like Mushroom Valley,Flying Battery and Sandopolis Zone these are the 1st Three Zones in Sonic & Knuckles which is Sonic 3 Part 2)

99tables : Level/World/Zone-skipping cheats are ALWAYS appreciated after a good play-through of a game the old-fashioned way. Sonic 1 had a cheat, Sonic 2 did too (I think), it made sense for the others to have one as well. And what's a classic Sonic game without Bonus levels.
