I have played Leaf Green several times now and I think I could help new trainer's with there Pokemon journey by suggesting to them some great teams.

If you have any questions just ask on this thread and I will see if I can help.  Now on to the guide.

Types:You should not have two Pokemon from the same type, unless there secondary type covers up the others weakness or there move set is very different
Examples: Golbat+Dragonite=good          Pikachu+jolteon= not good

Stats: You're team should not have ONLY Pokemon with high attack or ONLY with high speed because like a wise person once told me "too much of anything is not good" and then I realized that with all that is positive there must be something negative to fallow.  So in a way only Pokemon with one good stat is the largest weakness in Pokemon.

Now that that's out of the way you have two options continue reading to hear the rest of the opinion or with
what you read so far go and make you're own team.

So finally we begin.
Pokemon no 1: Water type starter,Golduck,Starmie,Slowbro,Gyarados,Poliwath or Vaporeon
Strategy:Teach Surf as the ultimate secret weapon against fire & rock type Pokemon and take advantage of there good abilities like water absorb or intimidate.

Pokemon no 2:fire type starter,Ninetails,Magmar or Flareon
Burn everything with these guys even burn the grass gym down (Ash did that) use strong fire moves like fire blast or flamethrower along with good speed and there defensive abilities to beat everyone and leave no survivors!!!(Insert evil laugh here)

Pokemon no 3:Graveler,Onix,kabutops or Omastar
NOTE:Remember what I said about types.
Use the Pokemon's high defense, endures and attack for some solid damage just by taking you're time so in a way time is you're ally.

Pokemon no 4:grass type starter,Exeggutor,Victreebel or Vileplume
Use stat conditions to you're advantage and high SPattack to own all water and ground.

Pokemon no 5:any ghost or psychic types(because there are almost no ghost types in gen 1 I put it with psychic)
Just teach psychic to any of these Pokemon destroy every one (minus magnemite) but I mean EVERYONE!!! have fun with blowing things up.

Pokemon no 6:any other Pokemon you want.     But I recommend Dragonite but hes hard to train but is one of the strongest Pokemon from gen 1.

Oh and one more thing if you don't want to teach you're Pokemon HM moves just make a HM slave (weak Pokemon who you teach HMs to)

In the end it's all up to you.

Well bye everyone and have a good journey.

Having all-round types? Finally someone with common sense...Aerodactyl, Starmie, Charizard, Vileplume, Dragonite, Snorlax
Gen 1 might not have the most advanced type matchups of pokemon, but does have a few good anchors to obtain

For FireRed players, would Arcanine be a good alternative to Ninetales?

bossrunner: Yes he would work great as he is very strong in gen 1 and Intimidate works like a charm.

Teach him Hyper beam to finish of the last Pokemon.(Wow I feel like a Pokemon professor, hehe)

Nice guide. I think it's not bad, and it's original. I might follow this in the near future, considering it has some logic behind each choice. Awesome job.

supershad :

I wouldn't, no. Flamethrower does the job much better. More PP and you don't have to recharge.
