I really don't get how this isn't popular. These game are so good and addictive. I mean yeah the story isn't the best and the graphics aren't good but the music and the dynamics of the game is pretty freaking good for such a old game. Also don't forget to mention that the game is difficult it's not some easy game to beat especially the second one the second one is extremely hard if you ask me I sat on my butt for 3 hours playing the second one and I couldn't stop playing because it was so good and addicting. I'll be truthful though when I first saw how many plays it had I thought it was going to be a terrible game but I thought why not try it, and I'm so glad I did play it. If any of you play this can or read this review tell people about this game on vizzed because I think this game can become way more popular then it is. Oh I also forgot to mention this game is pretty much or exactaly like dragon quest. So overall the game is good and I recommend it to anyone and whoever reads this spread the word about how good this game is.

The Dragon Warrior/Dragon Quest series was never received well in North America, but always well in Japan. Personally, I was hoping Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King, one of my favorite RPGs, would help North America realize that Dragon Warrior/Quest is a good franchise with great music, solid game play worthy of recognition.

I grew up with the originals on the NES and they were extremely challenging. I enjoyed them very much.

Why aren't they more popular?

You told us yourself. The story line is so basic and the graphics are weak and the game is repetitive. Dragon Warrior 1 was a grind, nothing more. You grinded levels, bought the next weapon, grinded levels, bought the next armor, grinded levels, bought the next club, maybe did a cave here or there, and grinded more levels. It was 95% one-on-one battles that just added EXP and GOLD to your account so you could go buy the broadsword in Rimuldar.

The second was slightly better.

jayron122 : If you really dug those games, Dragon Warrior III is the superior storyline, action, and fun of the franchise. Get that one and play through it. It's worth your time.
