They have a good idea, but it sucks. You can't get physical games/movies you own onto your PSP 4k. What if you don't have internet/have dial-up? You're screwed. Alas, it's a good idea. It'll be good for travelers.

Good thing that the normal PSP will be alive. I hope they keep it like this for all their handhelds...1 version where you have virtual everything and 1 version where you have physical everything.

Wait... Cartridges have faster data transfer than discs? Is that a relative term or literal? Discs should transfer at a very high rate... IE, the table below...

Data Transfer Speeds

Transfer SpeedKiB/sMb/s
1x1501.2288
2x300 2.4576
4x6004.9152
8x12009.8304
10x150012.2880
12x180014.7456
20x300024.5760
32x480039.3216
36x5400 44.2368
40x600049.1520
48x720058.9824
50x750061.4400
52x780063.8976

Maybe, back in the day of the N64 when CD transfer rates were 2-4x (considerable slow) but now days, 52x could transfer the entire data on any N64 cartridge in one second (1.0016 to be exact)

I like cartridges better. They are less easily damaged and are more durable (wait, that's the same thing isn't it?)

I gotta say though, I'd still rather have a physical game of some type over paying for data alone.
Plus then what would happen to special edition games that come with artwork?
Like I dont mind if it can be played without a disk/cart, but you should still get one you know?

Yeah, I understand you DarkHyren.

Icewave: Depends on the type of disc. If you use an HD DVD or Blu-Ray, the loading speeds are fast. If you use a DVD, loading speeds are somewhat low. If you use CDs/UMDs, the loading speeds are slow.

I personally think Cartridges Are Way better than CDs

Sure CDs can hold more Data, but Cartridges dont get broken and dusty very easily While discs get broken and scrached up a lot and take a while to laod as far as graphics, CDS all the way though

The fact that carts dont need anything extra to make a save file is a bonus.
But its also a downside as well because you can't really back up said save file unless you resort to "other" means
And on load times, its mostly the carts dont really have loading times at all except for loading save files. Mostly.

That is true that cartridges do load faster but it seems that discs are at a point where they load really fast now days, way faster than they did in the past.

And yeah, storing save files has an upside and a downside - but overall I prefer storing the data on a hard drive. I rent a lot of games (another reason why discs are better because they're cheaper to rent online due to being able to ship them in envelopes) so I wouldn't like it if after I rented the game I lost my save file due to it being on the cartridge.

I prefer discs, however with little ones I prefer carts. Kids are evil to discs and use them like frisbees and coasters and who knows? I agree that carts will make a return. History repeats itself 8-track,record,cassette,cd,who knows. Also I think companys are going to get tired of losing $ to piracy, and as stated before its more difficult(not impossible) to copy a cart than a disc. My 2 cents worth
