Final Fantasy VII is a great game. Magnificent I might add!

It is also EXTREMELY OVERRATED!

I love it when people tell me that Final Fantasy is the "perfect" game. Let's face it, no game is perfect. Final Fantasy is far from perfect. You mean to tell me that when your in a hurry and trying to climb a hard to find ladder, you've never gotten stuck and gone into two simultaneous battles. That infuriates me, that you can't tell me a game is perfect when that still happens. "Oh but the story line, and the battle system!". It's nothing new folks. A lot of RPG's use the same kind of device plots and character development changes to awe viewers. I personally find the story line of FFVIII to be better in some ways to that of FFVII.

One of the greatest games for sure. FF7 made square mainstream in the US, and was one of the first RPG's I ever played, so it will stand out in my mind forever. My ingame time is actually 99:99:99 lol

I love it. My fave game ever! It was the first RPG I had the pleasure of playing and for 12 years nothing has come close to beating it. It took Final Fantasy and made it what it is now! It's the reason that every FF game since has been a success! When I first played it I found it hard to get into but a couple of weeks later I picked it up and didn't take it out of my Playstation for 6 months! I also love my tattoo!

No offense, but that is why I *hate* FF7. It did not make Final Fantasy what it is today, except maybe for you. It was simply the first FF to be done in full 3D, making it more appealing. Don't get me wrong, it's a great game and a wonderful asset to the FF series. But, in my opinion, it's no better than FF3, 4, 6, or 10. I never really got into the story as much as I did with 6 and 10.

Granted, I love the FF7 soundtrack. It's one of, if not THE, best FF music arrangement to date.

And I like a lot of the characters. They finally got away from the blaaah cast of the other games (excluding 6- That one had some really unique characters. *cough* GAU *cough*).

FF7 was my favorite because it was a darker story much like ff6 and was released right in the prime of my high school years. With an amazing soundtrack, it just added to the revolutionary square block models and beautiful backgrounds (>.>). FF7 was endless wasted hours trying to morph all stats to 255 and defeating impossible situations. Most of my friends played ff7 at the time and whole weekends were devoted to playing it, so there is a lot of nostalgic value to it as well. If someone were exposed to it today that might not be the case because it is now just an old game.

Now if they would just remake it for some counsel system... Everyone could spend those endless hours all over again

Urso: I agree about the music.... absolutely fantastic music. Storyline was okay. The game itself was pretty fun but nothing amazing. It might have been great in it's time but I don't think it is the absolute best RPG out there.

And to be honest, the game itself was buggy enough when I tried to play it that I almost gave up trying.

My first FF was FF4, so it has a special place in my heart.

But FF7 had a great story and musical score, and I liked the materia system because you could further customize the players (i.e. making Cloud more of a fighter or more of a magic user). I think the storyline and the modern elements helped bring in more of an audience.

And don't forget all the side quests...you could play that game forever just to get everything. I still haven't beaten the other WEAPONs, lol.

I love FFVII, though FFVIII, X, and VI are better IMO, For awhile VII was my favorite. Even to this day, im not exactly sure, maybe it has something to do with it being the first 3d FF, and all its spinoffs (Advent Children, Crisis Core, DoC, etc.) Think about it. If another FF was the first 3d....lets say VI, then Tina, Locke and Cefca would replace Cloud, Aerith and Sephiroth. If VI got a movie, a portable action rpg, and a 3rd person person shooter, wouldnt you love it all that much more?

I loved the entire series(excluding 12, DoC wasn't that good either).
I loved FF7 for it's story, I loved the materia system, That's one thing that made me stick to this, I loved that there were side quests, Ruby wasn't all that hard(I"m to mean to explain the best strategy that guarantees Success, it's ashame Aeris had to die Yay for game shark and pc version... Too bad I have neither, plus my disc one is messed up(for PSOne) I wish I had a game shark, The only reason I would have it is for the resurrection of Aeris.

I enjoyed it, but I felt it was slightly overrated, but it was one of my favorites of the series, second or third best I think. In all honesty though, this comes from someone who didn't like Final Fantasy X much at all. The Grid System ruined it for me - I appreciated the idea of it, but felt it was executed poorly.

It was one of the best FF games, but not the best. It doesn't deserve all the praise it gets. Some, yes. All, no. The only thing that makes it really stand out is how amazing it was at the time.
