Pooyan is an arcade classic from the halcyon arcade days of yore. The story is simple enough; the wolves want to capture the baby pigs so the mama pig (Pooyan, I presume) must fight to defend her clan! She fights by getting into a dumb waiter and shooting arrows at wolves who are either going up or down the screen via balloons. An unusual premise to be sure, but the game is pretty darn good! Pooyan (the pigs' mother) shoots arrows at the balloons carrying the wolves up or down the screen before the wolves can attack her young. The wolves retaliate by firing rocks back at Pooyan, which Pooyan can avoid by moving over or under the rocks, or by letting the rocks hit the top of the dumb waiter. There is a missile arrow that is available periodically at the top of the screen that allows you to shoot more than all wolf balloons in a row, instead of the usual one at a time. This game is reminiscent of the other games of its era; extremely simple in graphics sound and depth, yet extremely addictive. There is a bonus round where you only shoot the missile arrow and watch the wolves fur fly! Relive your youth with Pooyan! Try to beat my 60,000 high score while you are at it!

I've played the NES version (or Famicom version better said, because it was released only in Japan) and it's a really good game, I used to play it all the time.
