Stick to the topic, please. There are plenty of threads to debate gun laws, you don't need to bring them up every time there's a thread about a shooting. We all know your opinion, and I really don't want to have to see the same argument in every single shooting related thread in here.

I can't believe someone is SOOO evil that they can even THINK of shooting children!  What a sick, perverted .... just...  Ever since I've heard I've been fighting tears. Again, for the victims and the witnesses.  If I was 7 years old and watched children shot down around me?!?!

1) Will not pray for them, not only because I don't believe in your god, but because praying is useless. Just wishes falling upon deaf ears. Why don't any of you actually e useful and donate to them for their losses or something? Lot better than putting your hands together wishing upon a missing star.

2) "One of", yes, but not THE worst. IIRC, the Aurora theater had more. Not sure. And if I also recall correctly, the shooting that spurred off the whole Rachel's Challenge program thing happened within the last decade or two, which had roughly around the same if not more deaths. Really, all shootings are bad. You can't compare them with the whole "one of the worst" things just like, as an example to all you prayers, you can't compare sins and decide which is the worst or one of the worst.

3) There's a shooting almost all the time now. Get over the fact you all think it's "shocking", it's really not. You guys just think it's shocking because of the places they target. As thenumberone's example shows, nobody cares for them for whatever reason, and nobody seemed to care for that shooting at the mall in Oregon. No, I'm not saying they're worse, I'm saying people like to pick and choose what to care for based on key subjects and whatnot.

4) I honestly felt unsafe all morning before I heard the news, basically feeling as if something really bad, specifically a shooting, were to happen at my school, again, before I found out about this event.

I not once in my post said they're not worth getting upset over. I said it's useless to make wishes, but followed up by saying to donate to them instead.

They're not surprising at all. Look at society today and tell me what makes them surprising at all.

Anyway, I do almost agree with you that this isn't as surprising as it should be. It's absolutely disturbing, and I'm having trouble getting myself to stop thinking about it to study for my last few exams, but it's almost becoming something to expect.

So let's just focus on the tragedy itself or other related news stories. There's no need to debate gun laws or the merits of praying. There are plenty of threads for those topics.

Oh my goodness... I... I hadn't even thought of that.  Every year now, Christmas is going to be SUCH a hard time for all those families that lost loved ones.  Christmases will be hard to enjoy and full of bad memories.

I'm so choked up.  It's seriously such a tragedy.

Despite what a certain post above says, there ARE 'worse' shootings, for many reasons.  I mean, you can't really compare a grocery store holdup to the Holocaust, right?  Killing is killing, yes.... but there are certainly some killings which are worse than others. This school shooting is definitely one of the worst to happen in our country.  I have to agree with the media on this one, and I'll be praying that everyone can heal and eventually find some comfort in their lives over such a horrible incident.  I also hope that the ones who lost their lives had a saving relationship with God.

Anytime I see these shootings, I find myself trying to establish the motive behind the killer.

In this instance, I hear that the killer first offed his father, then went to his mother's workplace (The elementary school) to shoot her. The kids could have ended up being collateral damage, or rather, just were there while he shot her so figured shoot them as well. Or what is more likely in my mind, he wanted to end it all but wanted to go out with a bang. And what a way to be remembered by being the guy that slaughtered elementary kids? The coverage on this will probably go on for a few days.

I feel bad not only for the victims' families, but also the killer's brother. Apparently, news reports were naming HIM the killer instead of his younger brother, so he got a lot of awful comments on his Facebook and threatening phone calls. His family was just wiped out AND was declared the killer. They cleared his name later and all, but holy hell...

And a final comment... Yes, school shootings are becoming more common, but I would not say people "stopped caring" about them. It is more of a desensitizing thing, to the point where you go, "Oh! Another school shooting? How Tragic! *Goes to next article*" It is when the shooting does something different-instead of a high school or college shooting, it was an elementary school-that people's attention is grabbed again.

A very unfortunate event. A friend of mine was talking about it earlier and it makes me hope in the bottom of my heart that we can find a way to protect our children. Its a messed up world we are bringing our kids into. Thanks to all of you praying for the children's families and the children who will be traumatized by this awful event. I wish I could be there to help.

I just read the USA today article on this... it is so sad that this man had to stoop so low as to kill twenty-six people, and 20 of those were elementary students. The article did not say what ever happened to the guy... can somebody please tell me what the end result besides the number of deaths, like what happened to the guy?

MegaRevolution1 : believe me, I'm just like you. I feel like we might be better off donating than praying, but these people wish to try to help these people with the faith that they have. And I feel that the way you wish to help, and the way you think will in fact help, is the way to help.
