Have you ever played the game Balderdash?  The premise of the game is simple, and basically, the best bluffer wins.

Well, I've thought it would be fun to play our own version of it here.  If you'd like to play, respond to this thread.  However, be sure you read the game rules first:

1. I'll play "Dasher" first.  This means I get to ask the first question and I'll be collecting all the first answers.  Now, since this is the net, the game wouldn't be any fun if our categories were things that could be researched.  Therefore, the questions we ask will be a bit more on the personal side.  For example, my first question prompt to all players might be: "Singelli's favorite day of the week".  This isn't something you could look up on the internet, so it'd be fair enough for people to guess.

2. All players other than the Dasher will come up with an answer they think is reasonable, and they will pm their guesses to the Dasher.  Remember that the point of the game is to bluff everyone else, so if you can provide a good reason for your answer, then you're more likely to gain points.  For example, if player A states "Monday is Singelli's favorite day of the week because she likes purple" and player B states "Friday is Singelli's favorite day of the week because she gets two days off"..... well player B is more likely to get votes.

Be as creative as you wish with the answers.  If you want to say you had a conversation with the dasher in pms and you want to go into detail so that you are more convincing to everyone else, more power to ya!

3.  After receiving all pms, the Dasher will post the results here anonymously, including the right answer.   Each player will then make a guess as to which answer is the correct one and will post their vote here in the thread.  Do NOT edit your post and change your answer.

4.  Once all votes are in, points will be tallied. If anyone originally guessed the right answer before the voting, they will be rewarded 3 points and will sit the round out. Each person who correctly guesses the real answer provided by the Dasher gets two points. For every false answer voted, the player who submitted the false answer gets one point. If no one guesses the real answer, the Dasher gets three points.

5.  The next round will then be played, but the person who registered next will this time be the Dasher.

6.  The first person to reach 50 points wins.  (This might change depending on the interest)

I am leaving applications to play open for 7 days.  Only respond if you know you will actively play and not leave the rest of us to our lonesome selves, tapping our fingers impatiently.

I'm here practically every day and this sounds interesting, so count me in!

I think it's a really great/fun idea (never played the game before, so it's new to me, making it more interesting) so I really hope this gets off the ground.

Crazy Li : I hope so too.  ^.^  I never played Balderdash itself, but I played a very similar game in which the players made up definitions to words.  It's pretty much the same concept though.

Usually I'm not very creative, so I have no idea why this idea popped into my head.  I haven't even played the game for like... eight years.  LOL

I think it will be TONS of fun if we get more people to sign up.  I'm excited about it!

Once I have all answers, I will post them in a random order, anonymously.  So I will need a buffer post or two.  

I was waiting on udfett.  He was online for the past two days and he didn't respond to this summon OR the pm. Thus, I'm going to begin without him.

The answers have rolled in!  Luckily for you, this is a game in which table talk IS encouraged!  Feel free to discuss these answer choices and I will leave them up for two whole days.  On 12/19 (6:00pm server time), the correct answer will be revealed, votes will be tallied, and points will be given.



Here are the answer choices:
A: Singelli's second favorite flower is a dandelion. As evidence she has had pictures of dandelions on her profile!

B: Singelli's second favorite flower is the carnation because they are the longest lasting bouquet flowers and they make her think of someone special to her.

C: Singelli's second favorite flower is the poinsettia. She likes red flowers (as evidenced by her current layout) and it reminds her of Christmas time.

D: Singelli LOVES the daisy because it has many petals, and it has a yellow center! Also it makes her think of God's Creating the Earth.

E: Singelli's second favorite flower is the "Forget Me Not" because it is the state flower of Alaska which is her most favorite of all the places she has ever lived.

F: Daffodil.  Many girl's favorites or second favorites are daffodils and Singelli is no exception. Everyone loves looking at them as they are very beautiful flowers.

G: Singelli's 2nd favorite flower is the Sunflower, because it spreads love.


What should you be doing?  Read the answers, and discuss them as you will. You may NOT reveal which one is yours, nor which one you are voting for.  When you have made up your mind which is the most convincing (and you think is the right answer), pm me with your vote.  You must do this before 6pm on the 19th!!!!

Am I correct in assuming that the only voters are the ones who actually submitted answers or can other people jump in and vote as well? Considering all voting does is give points to the person who submitted the voted-for answer, you may not want an influx of points from people outside of the game though...

Well normally only those that submit vote, so I didn't intend on any outsiders voting.  Just remember that ONE of them IS the right answer, provided by me.


Speaking strategy:
Voting on your own might or might not be any good to you.  You get two points if you guess the correct answer.  You get one point every time someone votes for your own answer.

Thus, if everyone just voted for their own answer, the game would never progress because everyone would get the same number of points.  Therefore, it becomes a game of which answer gets voted the most since it is most convincing.

I did consider changing the way the game is scored, rewarding points for the most popularly voted option, but I'd like to see how this game or a few turns come out.  Then we can reflect on ways to change the game and make it more fun.
