I agree with numberone, its more of a social stigma then an actual rule. I personally never use a urinal as I find it ackward to use. This is also why I don't do public showers.

This is a common guy rule that isn't confined just to your school. Most guys live by this rule. Not so much as to be homophobic but just to give people their personal space.

Honestly there will be times in your life where this isn't possible, but if you go anywhere most times guys won't stand right next to you at the urinal unless there is no other choice.
