Pokemon Leaf Green is, contrary to popular belief, the remake of Pokemon Green, which was exclusively released in Japan. In this game, you get so much more, basically because you have this being after Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, so being able to link with these games is only possible by altering the story a little more. For example, you can now play on the Sevii Islands, which you could never do in the other games. You also have the ability to breed, which was only introduced later in the Pokemon series, not in the first generation. This game still contains the basic tools that a Pokemon game has, such as how you are able to catch them all, which is 150 Pokemon (even though technically you cannot catch Mew, who is Pokemon 151). You also have to fight the gyms to get to the Elite Four, where you can finally face your rival and take the place as the top trainer in the region. But, this game introduced the multi region system, since technically the Sevii islands are not part of the Kanto region. Overall, you still get the basics of the Pokemon games, but you get these new features that you had never seen before in a Pokemon game. Graphics 7: This game is a little above average in the graphics department, just because you can still see the pixels of the game. I actually like Pokemon Emerald's graphics better, which should make sense because I believe it was made after Leaf Green and Fire Red. The graphics are not as bad as the Backyard Sports series, where you can never see the ball because it is really just one giant pixel (the Backyard series were actually released after this game, so you can tell that Game Freak really cared about this game). Sound 8: This game gives you the traditional basis for most of the sounds, which are really cool. Considering the technology they had back then, the sound was actually quite advanced. For example, the sound is now less scratchy than in Green, Blue, and Red, which shows the level of improvement over the course of about 10 years. Addictiveness 10: As with all Pokemon games, this game was very addictive. For example, I got grounded once in my life, and that was only because I tried to sneak this game into bed with me so I could play instead of sleeping. I literally could not put this down, and it annoyed me that I was wasting battery life whenever I had to stop abruptly and could not save the game. You should have trouble being able to put this game down, especially if you are a hardcore Pokemon fan, just because the game is that good. Story 8 : There really isn't a diverse story to Pokemon games, unless they are one of the spinoffs. I would really like to see a different storyline in Pokemon than just the usual something bad has happened and an evil organization has taken over the Pokemon universe and now you must stop it. In this game, you are pitted, once again, with the illustrious team rocket, who tried to take over the world ten real life years earlier in Red, Blue, and Green. At the end of the game, there is a different story about the Sevii Islands, where you have to get some jewels to be able to trade with Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire. I really don't get why they don't just let you trade directly with Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire right away, basically because they let you trade right away in the new games. Maybe they got so many complaints about the old system that they had no choice but to change it. Depth 10: As with all Pokemon games, this game is very deep. You have the ability to catch, raise, and trade one hundred and fifty Pokemon in the game, and there are more after you complete the main game to collect. This is one of the first games where you get a National Dex to collect new Pokemon in, which is a very good improvement to the series. You also get to beat eight gyms, and then you get to beat the Elite Four as much as you want. You can also set goals for yourself, such as seeing all the parts of the Map of Kanto or maybe even training one hundred Pokemon to level one hundred. Nevertheless, you will always have something to do in this game, making this game an easy ten in the Depth department. Difficulty 6: This game is one of the more difficult Pokemon games, unless you grind all the time like I did recently on my vizzed saving. The only reason this game should be really hard is if you try to nuzlocke the game, which is something I do not recommend, mainly because you can rage so much when you do that and have to start over all over again a lot when you attempt to do it. This game is also one of the more harder games because the gyms are at higher levels than what games such as Silver and White are at today. Overall 9.8: This game gets a very high score mainly for the reason that it is one of the more well done remakes we have seen the Pokemon world do in a while. For example, they remade the system of trading so that you are able to trade with the new games Ruby and Sapphire. This is also the first time you have seen shiny Pokemon in a Kanto region game, which answers the question of what do Kanto Pokemon look when they are shiny. This game is also rated high on my chart because it was actually the first video game I ever played, which is pretty interesting since I started when I was 6. I would recommend this game to anyone who likes Pokemon or just wants to experience Pokemon for the first time. This game still contains the basic tools that a Pokemon game has, such as how you are able to catch them all, which is 150 Pokemon (even though technically you cannot catch Mew, who is Pokemon 151). mlb789 : So this is how I just got knocked out of the top five for yellow. I get it now. And this is a nice review. I had this game when I had a Game Boy SP. And I agree with you: the graphics are pretty good. the sound is the normal annoying tune, but everything else is pretty much spot on. Great review friend. I enjoyed it. |

thing1 : I actually wasn't caring about the yellow jersey, I just wanted my quota out of the way. Now I am more free to post and do whatever I want for the rest of the month. Thanks for the feedback, though. |

I have played Pokemon Fire Red before, but not Pokemon Leaf Green. The only thing different between these two games is the Pokemon in both games. I mean, the legendary Pokemon are still in the game, it's just you can't catch all 150 Pokemon in this game without linking to another Game Boy Advance with Fire Red. Plus, I think it is possible to catch Mew in this game. Some of the music in this game is pretty good though. Mainly when you fight your rival when he's the champion. Anyways, this is a good review that I read. |

starwars293 : You can not catch Mew in this game legitimately in this game, but this thing called gameshark allows people to do wonders with their game. You also can't catch 150 Pokemon, which is why they made the trading in the game better. |
