I know this seems like a really odd question, but hear me out. When I went to get my wisdom teeth cut out, my orthodontist (the one who tried to kill me for those who remember my thread about it) knocked out one of the caps my dentist had put over a cavity. Well, I lost my health insurance soon after the surgery, so I haven't been able to go back to the dentist to get the cap put back on.

Today, I had a weird realization. The tooth in which the cap was knocked off of, suddenly doesn't have a cavity anymore, and the tooth has that rough feeling teeth get when you have a cap put on them. Can anyone even begin to give me an idea as to what happened? As far as I knew, cavities don't just go away and tooth caps can't grow back.

Any ideas?

I asked my friend, but even he did not know, and he a complete nerd.

The only thing that I can think of is that is slowly grew back. You know... how like when you get a cut, and the actual skin eventually grows back? Same concept.

That is the only thing I can think of.

If caps could grow back why would anyone pay to have them installed? No, your cap did not grow back, you just have food stuck in your cavity, and you need to get it out of there quickly before the problem gets worse. You might want to just pay out of pocket to have the cap put back on, it should only be a couple hundred dollars, and it will prevent more pain and suffering in the long run.

Lazlo Falconi : Yeah I thought I had food stuck in it at first too. Then I brushed my teeth twice, flossed, and even went so far as to use a tooth pick to get the food out, but there is no food there. As weird as it sounds, the cavity is just gone.

I would definitely have someone look at it. Did you use a syringe or water-pick? There could possibly be something in the tooth that filled the hole (food or anything else) that you cannot get out with conventional methods. I used the syringe I got after my wisdom teeth surgery for a while to get food out of the holes that simply did not budge under traditional rinsing, etc. The water pressure might work wonders, but I would still get the tooth checked out before assuming you don't have a problem. Teeth problems, by my experience, never go away. My lip is still a bit numb after almost 2 years since my wisdom teeth, and I'm about to get my first small filling that they detected back in December (I was kind of hoping it'd go away too lol).

That sounds kind of... odd a bit. But when you talk about it being knocked off, does it feel super weird when you eat or something?
