There's also PS1 that has got many good RPGs like Final Fantasy 7,8,9 and also
Final Fantasy Tactics , Persona , Lunar , Tales of Destiny ... and with better graphic quality than the Snes but the super nintendo has a greater number of RPGs

i agree you'll probally find that the best consoles for rpg's are snes and playstation.
as far as best emulators i think ZSNES and ePSXe are the best snes and ps emulators.
