Yesterday was a dark day for the gaming industry as every 38 studio was shut down lying off every employee. However, one ex-employee is not angry about how Kingdom of Amalur: Reckoning did in the market. Instead the ex-employee blames the governor of Rhode Island Chafee. According to gamespot.com Governor Chafee secured a $75 million loan for the company. Something that the creative director thought should have been more in order to prevent both the closing of the studio’s and the lay-offs of all the employees.

Creative Director Steve Danuser believed that if the governor had done just a little more the studio would still be open. Dansuer said, “ We thought he was an ally, it turned out that he wasn’t. Chafee said a lot of things and broken confidentially. He has done a lot of thinks to materially hurt us.”

38 studio’s troubles came to light when the governor indicated that the company hasn’t made any payments on a $1.125 million dollar loan to the states Economic Development Corporation. 38 studios made the payments but not without doing some lay offs in order to get the money. Later the governor let reports surface that 38 studio’s wasn’t able to pay their employees on time twice in one month. The executive director for EDC who help structured the loan resigned from his position soon after. As a result the residents of Rhode Island are responsible for $90 million of the loan. This loan was to persuade 38 studios to move from Massachusetts to Rhode Island.

As for the game Kingdom of Amalur: Reckoning that released with a warm reception from gamers. However, even though the game sold 330,000 units in the United States in one month alone and was estimated that it sold 1.2 million copies total. Governor Chafee deemed the game as a failure and quoted that the game needed to sell 3.3 million just for the game to break even.

I heard about this long before it was a news story.

The guy who owns it, Curt Schilling, is such an idiot. He needs to stop talking. He's had a very unsuccesful post-baseball life.

I think at last I heard, the company was worth like -50 million dollars.
