So, my Dad left for Afghanistan for a year today. He called me, and I missed his call. I called him back a few minutes later, and he answered. He said he had to use the restroom, and he call back 5 minutes later, but he never did. My Dad is somewhere over the ocean flying to Afghanistan right now, I won't get to talk to him for 365 plus days... :'(

I was done with Afghanistan back in October. I'm not sure if I made a thread about it or not. I'm at Ft. Lewis, WA now (and a year from today I'm getting out of the Army after 15 years).

There's almost always a computer/phone building where you either call your family and friends or email/reach them on FB. The PX will sell phone cards to use. some $25 for 200 minutes or something. His unit should actually mandate that all soldiers get in touch with family within the first couple weeks of being there, and periodically after that.

So there should be no excuse as to why you wouldn't hear back from him in some way or form. Where is he going, by the way?
