Pokémon Gold is one of the first Pokémon games I have played(other than crystal, which I borrowed from my brother) and is one of the best games on the Game boy color that I have played.
Graphics
For a Game boy color, you can't really expect too much in this department, compared to games today. The text is clear on what it is trying to convey, you can tell which Pokémon you are looking at, or what color he/she is. The graphics are just "average" for a game boy color.
Sound
The sounds of the games can be split to 2 sides: the Pokémon's cries or roars and the music. The Cries can be heard as the Pokémon comes out of the poke ball in battle, and is a little distorted, and is just a little weird to listen to. On the other hand, the music is neat to listen to, and gives a sort of feel the town or route your at.
Addictiveness
The game is always supporting you to get all 251 Pokémon in the game, to train all your Pokémon to get ready for that gym battle The Elite 4, or going against your rival. Sometimes you will be waiting or hurrying along so you could be done before the sun came up or set to evolve Eevee into Umbreon or Espeon, or to catch Pokémon that only appear at night or morning, either way, the game always grabs your attention in many ways.
Story
Pokémon game don't have very original plots or stories, just be the greatest Pokémon master.
Depth
The length of the game is quite longer than the games preceding it, having 2 regions to beat. Its not a game to really rush through, because you might have to train your pokemon to level up, or to catch rare or useful pokemon that would have a type advantage for the next battle you might have.
Difficulty
The game can be difficult, but its never almost impossible to know where you need to go(just ask the town folk!), and some gym battles can be quite hard for the part of the game it's in, but a little training never hurt, right? the only part s that can be difficult is the last battle, battling pokemon at level 70+!
Overall, Pokemon Gold Version is a great game for the Game Boy Color with average graphics, some debatable sounds, addictive, long and a challenging game.
