This is a story that I've been working on in my Latin class since yesterday.... I'm going to post Latin text first, and the translation after it. I won't be able to work on it in about a week because my Latin class has been cancelled over that course of time:

1. The Wicked Uncle

Once upon a time, there were, in Thessaly, two brothers named Aeson and Pelius. Aeson had first obtained a kingdom, but after a few years Pelias, because he was desiring the kingdom, not only did he drive out his brother, but also intended to kill Jason (Aeson's son).

However, certain friends of Aeson, when they understood Pelius' intentions, they decided to snatch the boy out of danger. Therefore, at night they carried away Jason out of the city, and, when on the next day they returned to the king, they reported to him. The boy was dead. Pelius, after hearing these things, although feeling great in joy,  he showed the appearance of grief and asked, "How did he die?" But, those people understood that the King's grief was false so they made up a story about the death of the boy.

2. A Careless Shoe-String

Post breve tempus Pelias valde timebat quod regnum suum tam violens et corruptum erat. Credebat regnum amittere. Amicum quondam itaque Delphos misit ubi cum oraculo convenit. Oraculum dixit nullum periculum in praesentia esse. Peliam tamen monuit quod homo calceum unum gerens eum necabit. Post paucos annos Pelias constituit magnum sacrificium facere. nuntios in omnes partes regni dimisit. Die sacrifii magnus numerus hominum undique ex agris convenit; inter alios venit Iason, qui a puero apud Centaurum quendam vixerat. Dum tamen iter facit, calceum unum in flumine amisit.

After a short time Pelias was greatly afraid because his kingdom was so violent and corrupted. He thought that he would lose his kingdom. Therefore, he sent a certain friend to Delphi where he met the Oracle. The Oracle said that in the present, there was no danger. However, it warned Pelias because a man was wearing one sandal to kill him. After a few years, Pelias decided to make a great big sacrifice. He sent out messengers to all parts of the kingdom. On the day of the sacrifice, a large number of men conveened from everywhere outside of the fields; amongst them came Jason from boyhood had lived at the home of a certain centaur. While he's making a journey he lost his sandal in a river.

So, basically what the story is saying that there was once two brothers, Aeson and Pelias. Aeson became the king of a kingdom, but was eventually driven out (killed in other words) by his brother Pelias. Someone who knew about Pelias' true motive basically took the child (Jason and hid him). That person/ people that hid him returned to the King and lied to his face saying that Jason was killed. The king pretended to be sad, but he was ecstatic on the inside. Despite his efforts, Jason's saviors knew what was really going on and decided not to say anything. A few years later, Pelias' government became corrupt and violent. Pelias got paranoid about his kingdom, and sent a messenger to the oracle to find out what was going on. The messenger returned stating that it currently was fine, but a man with a single sandal would be the one to kill him. A few years after that, Pelias held a sacrificial day which brought every man from the fields to a gathering basically. Among them was Jason who had grown up and happened to have one sandal.

That's the end of the first two chapters, I hope you enjoyed. I apologize for the grammatical errors because I was in a hurry and I copied it word for word from the Latin teacher and his assignment (he went over it and I copied each word he said in correct order).

Wow, you're taking a Latin class? That's pretty amazing. I think Latin is pretty much a dead language now, but it's a good thing to study if you'll be studying languages or western culture.

Someone70 : thanks. I said the same thing and I was pretty mad when I found out that my mom signed me up for it without my permission. Technically, we aren't supposed to learn it until we get to high school, but I have the luxury taking it a year earlier (I'm in 8th grade) meaning that I could be done around the end of my freshman year.

I studied Latin at school for three or four years I believe. I was quite good and interested in this. Now, if you ask me to translate or write Latin texts, I should be a bit rusted I suppose ha ha
