The numbers are not official but it looks like that the US
retail software and hardware sales dropped during the month of March. Looks
like Playstaion's Vita and Bioware's Mass Effect 3 didn’t raise sale prices as
high as experts hope. In fact, it looks like sales have dropped for the fourth
month in a row.  Actual numbers won't be release until later this week.
However, according to Wedbush Securities' analyst Michael Pachter, revenues will come
to an estimated $565 million for March which is a 23 percent drop from last year numbers
during this time.

Pachter, believes that sales won't start to have positive numbers until May when three
of the most anticipated games come out to the market. Games like  Diablo III, Max Payne 3,
and Ghost Recon Future Solider.

As for hardware Pachter, believes that sales in March took a 32 percent drop.
Pachter believes that the downturn of this was due to the high-profile of the
Nintendo 3DS which was launch this time last year, March 2011. Also the
Playstation Vita which was launch this last February only sold 123,000 units
which was noted to be much lower than experts predicted the new hand held
system would do. Pachter also says that sales for hardware won't rise again
until price cuts are announced once again.

lilwildwolf21 : Does this mean the prices would be lower for us? If not, how does this concern us?

Also, I like how you didn't really edit your copied text. Does this mean you are fairly lazy or wanted a response like this?

Lets see the US RETAIL SOFTWARE AND HARDWARE SALES DROPPED  I would say the first sentence answers your question. How does that affect us? Gee I don't know if sales keep dropping like this we might see the end of the gaming industry if there is no money coming in we could see another crash. The point is that even though it looks like the US Economy is slowly recovering the gaming industry here isn't recovering as fast as everything else.

Now if you want my opinion on this, this is something to be concerned about since if companies like BioWare, Capcom, Ubisoft, or Trecharch feel that its not worth making games for the US the US gamers may see a drop in game production not price...This could actually raise the prices of games instead of lowering them. It's all about supply and demand, if companies don't produce as much and gamers are buying more games then what are being made that could in a long run raise prices.

As for not really edit my copied text I posted...I have been talking to davideo7 about how to better format my text. It is not that I'm lazy or wanted a response like the one you gave me its more of still learning how to properly post my articles that I write for davideo7. As for grammar errors and spelling I do my best to catch everything, but I'm far from perfect, as this is actually my weakest point when I write.

I agree. It seems like you thought this sales price thing out through. I sorta believe they'll drop, but not necessarily as much as you say. I don't really use any of those things so it really didn't affect me (aside from Mass Effect 3).

catfight09:     actually if you play the X-box 360, Playstation 3, or the Wii this affects you because this isn't just about the Vista or Mass Effect 3 this is about the WHOLE gaming industry. Most companies when they make video games are losing money when they sell their games at the current prices. It takes far more money to make a game, and if companies are not making their monthly sales then companies are going to start dropping projects and focus more on things that will make them money. That is how Nintendo started, believe it or not Nintendo was a company back in the 1800's. They first started as a card game company creating playing cards. By 1967 Nintendo had tried over a hundred different types of business including a taxi service. It wasn't until the late 1970's that Nintendo went into video games.

Now think about this for a second if it cost Nintendo $1 million to make 100,000 copies of lets say the new Zelda game that is coming out for both the Wii and the Wii U. Now these are not true numbers this is probably very very low but its just an example. Lets say they only for some strange reason only sell 6,000 copies of this Zelda game at $60 a piece. that is $360,000 subtract that from $1 million and Nintendo has lost a total of $9,640,000. Now lets say Nintendo puts out two new games a month with the same numbers as before, Nintendo for the year has just lost $231,360,000. So for 24 games Nintendo didn't bring any money in tell me would you continue to make video games knowing that you would not bring any money in? I think not, this is why this affect everyone not just one or two games that are made, because if Nintendo on of the leading game companies are taking this bad of a hit in my example. Then imagine what the smaller companies are taking for a hit. This is why prices won't go down they will go up if this continues so that way companies can break even.

Again this is only an example, these numbers are not correct numbers just hypothetical.
