Today I'm reviewing The S Factor- Sonia and Silver Overall- 9.7 ?Let me just start by saying this is one of the best, most complete Sonic Hacks I've played. It's a complete and difficult hack that has more variety than just a sprite swap. I first got my claws on this hack around a year before vizzed got it and I found it to be phenomenal. Let's jump right into this review.
Graphics-8? These graphics quite possibly surpass that of any other sidescrolling sonic game on the genesis. The coloring of the environments provide a more realistic feel- while Sonic games normally have either a super bright level or a super dark level.? The coloring of the badniks are bolder, as well as darker, thus providing visible differences. Another thing with the badniks is that they have been redone to have a much more cybernetic look to them. Plus, the bosses look great.
Sound- 7?? The music in this game could have been better at some parts but Aquaslash, the creator of this hack, went to the trouble of actually porting music from Sonic Adventure into this game- which is a huge plus in my book. Of course, the sound effects are also very nice and carry that special Sonic feel.
Addictiveness- 10 ?This game's addictiveness is hands down just as addictive as any classic Sonic game and maybe even more. And with the inclusion of 3?characters to play as, each hugely different from the other, you cant bet that I'm always gonna be coming back to it for more.? The?bosses require lots more?work and are harder to figure out. Heck, the first boss destroyed all of my lives when I first started playing.
Story- 3 ?This game pretty much follows the exact same story as your standard Sonic game. (I.E. 1 and 2.)Eggman?Nega, who is the?Eggman from Silver the Hedgehog's time period, is causing trouble and has apparently sunk so low as to resorting to stuffing poor animals into robots and making them attack. I think the only main difference in the story here would be the different eggman. But,?in terms of good guys, 3 heroes from the Sonic series band together to take down eggman nega- who is, despite just stuffing animals into robots in this?game, actually much more of an intense bad guy than eggman is. Silver the Hedgehog, Sonia the Hedgehog from Sonic Underground, and Scourge the?Hedgehog who is Sonic's evil counterpart, are the available characters in this game.
Depth- 8? This game features 3 unique?playable characters, super difficult special stages,?and long?as well as difficult levels and bosses.? Silver's unique abilities include spindashing and having the?ability to float in the air. Sonia is a heavier character (most likely due to her hair) who lacks some of the traditional sonic abilities and instead plays more like how amy plays in Sonic Advance. Instead of spindashing she takes a big leap. She can also do a tornado spin like?Espio can in Knuckles chaotix. Scourge, who is probably my favorite character?in this game, is also the lightest character and I think he has his set of moves ripped directly from sonic CD. He has the?Super Peelout, which is a move that cause him to rev his feet up as fast as he can and then launch himself.?He has the classic spindash, and even has a move similar to homing dash?but it lacks the homing. And when he has?enough speed and vertical air, he spins around the same way Sonic?does in sonic CD.?
Difficulty- 6 ? This game is by all means much harder than?most other sonic games and by far harder than?any of the genesis?titles. The levels are lengthy and difficult, the bosses are hard, and the special stages are something else. They are very weird; you would have to play them yourself to understand. The controls are virtually untouched, though. This is a good thing. You slide and skid around just like you would in any other Sonic game.
In conclusion, the game is great fun and the variety will keep you happy. It's straightforward, fast, and overall a well-done hack that's definitely worth playing.
