I've been completely obsessed with Tetris lately, however, there's been more than enough flash versions of regular Tetris, So I thought:
"Why not Tetris attack?" For those who haven't played Tetris attack, it's pretty fun, and it's much different than regular Tetris. I recommend to anyone who hasn't already to try it. I'm going to start out with the basic Puzzle mode before implementing a VS. CPU mode (So I can get the basics down) Aside from the characters I make and the game itself, I'll put in a few characters (That I didn't make) and hidden easter eggs. (Also can be a music easter egg.) Anyways, current (Not mine) characters - Bub + Bob (Puzzle Bobble) Yoshi and Mario (Mario/Original Tetris Attack) Pikachu (Pokemon Tetris Attack) Megaman, Airman (You can see the easter egg here.) Maybe add a 'Vizzed Mode' where players have to play at maximum level, unlimited time, and an entire screen to place blocks? (not those columns where you place blocks, like the whole screen will be space for blocks.)

Err... What I meant was....
Look at this Now, instead of the split screen, one side for you and one for the CPU, you get the entire screen with maximum block-dropping speed, and x3 score. BUT, while you have a whole screen to drop blocks (meaning there's no small column like in the average Tetris size) there are no boxes to show which block will come next, and there's no time limit. AND, the CPU also has a full screen to launch attacks to your side, and you can't see anything that's going on with the CPU except their score.  challenging enough?
