So the us has just shut this site down, it was a really good site but if any site was guilty of copyright i supose it was them.
Il miss it though =(
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-16642369
if they can already do this sopa really seems unnecesary.
Aditional: hackers hit back.

The effects of SOPA are already starting to be seen with the shut down of MegaUpload.
The government is actually starting to take down stuff, even though SOPA hasn't even passed yet. Just think of what will happen if SOPA does pass... It is a sad, sad thought. :/

R.I.P. to you MegaUpload, you were a great site.

Just wondering. What exactly was MegaUpload? I have heard of it, but never really paid attention to what they did. I have never really been one to upload or download things, especially illegally. If it is a music site, it figures I wouldn't have known what it was. Anyway, it doesn't really seem this is a SOPA effect type of deal. I have heard before that MegaUploader has had many demands in the past to take down certain things, and at times, they did not comply. When a copyright owner demands something to be taken down and the site doesn't comply, the gov already had power to step in. SOPA will give that power to them without the companies having to make a demand first. They can pretty much end sites that they see at their own willy nilly without the companies who owned the copyright having to be asked if they want it to happen. That is why Vizzed would be in danger because Nintendo, Sega, etc have not asked David to take down the games that are still up. But with SOPA, the government can just shut it down anyway.

A very true point Pi0x..
Maybe sopa, might be secretly passing its warning signs to everybody,
Warning that the end of the internet is coming
Or then again they could just be doing this to laugh at the mass variety of people
Who actually used MegaUpload...

rcarter2 : MegaUpload was pretty much exactly as the title implies, it was just a file sharing site. But a LOT of people used it for pirating, naturally.

Which exactly why it was shut down.

How much y'all wanna bet 4shared is next?

rcarter2 : as piox stated, it was most notably full of game iso's, roms, movies and tv programs.
i wonder if they owned megavideos(runs off to check)
Nooooo! Megavideo is gone too, aaaaahhh!
I loved using that for things like watching malcolm in the middle =(
It essentialy allowed streaming of massive videos, most pirate movies were hosted there too so i see why it was targeted.
Acording to wikipedia, before founding megaupload the owner had been convicted of credit card fraud.

See what have I been telling people here SOPA is a joke and you dont need it to shut down sites. Government doesn't need bills to do things they just do it as nike's slogan says.

I watched a news segment this morning about this little fiasco. There was more to it than I though, which further shows that this isn't really a SOPA kind of thing. I already knew that this site had had issues in the past where it neglected to take down copyrighted material when they were asked by the copyright owners. That is already grounds for outside involvement. But the thing they were nailed for was that they were selling copyrighted material without permission. So they were actually getting a profit directly from people buying materials from them that they had no permission to sell. So again, this really is not a SOPA kind of effect. MegaUpload was pretty much asking for it.

haha. I know that you agree with it and are just upset that a site you like is down. My comment was less for you and more for people who seem to be thinking that this is SOPA already in effect, when it really isn't. The worst way to combat something like SOPA is to use information and examples that don't even fit in with the issue.

Indeed, a very valid point, you hurt your 'side' when using false/irelevant/inacurate info.
Check this, this is what would happen non stop if sopa came into effect
(hackers strike back at megaupload closure)

This has nothing to do with SOPA, except possibly the fact that copyright holders were pissed off about it not passing and went to the FBI to take the site down. I think it is odd that Megaupload was targeted, but apparently they accounted for over 4% of all internet traffic. Numerous occasions I have tried to download a file or watch a movie from their sites but the files were removed due to copyright infringement. It is similar to youtube (which might have more than 4% internet traffic) or any other site removing files because of copyright infringement. This has lead many people to think there is more than just copyright issues involved in this case. Apparently they were also charged with money laundering, so that may have been a major cause for this as well.

That sucks, but the government has a pretty good reason to shut it down. Megaupload does have a history of pirated videos, but it does suck that they shut EVERYTHING down, thus the Retro Toon Room is dead now. Shame.

MegaUpload is back without a domain name. (it's listed by IP now)

I forget the IP, but you'll probably hear of it soon enough. IPs are the way of the future.

not really (ips way of the future)
theyre too complicated for most users to understand and remember, thats the whole reason they use dns, infact, they are currently expanding it, for like, $50.000 you can create youre own address e.g www.cocacola.co.pepsi
allthought they are afraid thats going to increase internet squating.
Slight tangent there though, IP's will only ever be used by people trying to do work arounds i think
edit: and i looked into the claims of megaupload being back (i found this hard to believe since the FBI seized almost all there equipment and servers)
this alternate ip is only pretending to be megaupload, prepare for major phishing if anyone atempts to use it.

The timing of the closure was coincidental, being the day after everyone jumped off the sinking SS SOPA.  There had actually been a 2-year investigation going on about MegaUpload, and how they were profiting from their piracy through membership and linking programs.

Their blatant disregard for DMCA take-down requests, not to mention employees themselves uploading pirated material, were all contributing factors in bringing the site down.

Yes, I guess I'll agree with the government they did break the law.  But they did give the best deals to artists like Busta Rhymes and Alicia Keys compared to other companies. Plus they had the best free videos so yea you could say I'm bummed a little but now I guess I'll just have to be satisfied terrible video.

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
