liveinvainne : Sorry for the extremely late reply, but yes. Currently, Phantasy Star Online 2 is only in Japanese. However, Sega is going to release it in the United States on PC, Vita, iOS & Android (mobile versions with single-player content) in 2013. It'll also be free and if you play PSO2 on Vita, the data is the same as PC so it's cross-compatible, meaning you can play as the same character and play with the same people between both platforms! It's really cool. I played the JP version for a brief period but now I'm just gonna wait for the English version.

Adventure Quest is a pretty fun game. My favorite MMO though is Mabinogi.

I was never really big on MMO's in my opinion I even tried World of Warcraft a few times but hands down star trek online is one of the most fun MMO's I've played from customization of your ship right down to beaming down to the surface of some planet to kill some klingons.

For as long as I've been playing (1 week) I've really enjoyed the experience I've had with Vindictus. It's an instanced dungeon crawler with only 4 classes, but the gameplay is really interesting. Unlike a lot of other MMOs I've played, the are a lot of destructible items in the environment, and a lot of them can be used as weapons. It has really cool physics. Another MMO I recommend is Champions online. It's an open world Superhero MMO, that plays a bit like WoW. The most interesting things about this game are the travel powers, and the HUGE variety in character customization (although you get a lot of people like me making their favourite comic book characters). DC Universe online is another one I've enjoyed. It's another Superhero MMO, but this one is made in the Unreal engine. You can choose between 1 of 3 different styles of movement, flight, super-speed, or acrobatics. The combat is kind of slow and repetitive, but  the combination of combat and the movement powers adds originality.

redskiller28 : Runescape is a huge grind, I wouldn't really suggest it unless Dreggmiester has a lot of time on their hands.

For download ones, I would say Dragon Nest, LaTale, or even Maplestory. For the ones that aren't too demanding, that is. Flyff or World of Warcraft otherwise, if your computer can handle either.

I know some people like to shy away from games based on already-established fantasy stories, but LotRO (Lord of the Rings Online) and Dungeons and Dragons Online (DDO) are pretty good, as well as free.
I know a lot of the following have been mentioned already, so I'll just give my experiences with each:

- MapleStory: my first MMORPG. I played back in the days of v.30, way back in the "good old days" when it was a lot more of a grind. MapleStory used to have 4 classes - now they have over 20 (I think, and counting). There's not a lot of class customization, but that's sort of a good thing, because that means each class is a very unique experience, and thus you'll be tempted to create as many classes as you can to get the full experience out of the game. Also it's free.
- Shaiya: I didn't play for more than about a month, and it was pretty average. As far as 3D MMORPGs go these days, you have to do something spectacular to stand out. Shaiya fails in this respect, but it's still a good game.
- Allods Online: Probably one of my favorite MMORPGs. Good graphics, blah blah (you can turn the graphics down if your computer isn't great). A solid choice.
- Vindictus: Fun if you're into the brawler MMOs. Revolves around using your environment and comboing your skills with other of your skills. It means there's a lot of exploration and development of a character, which means that the meager 4-class selection is actually a lot deeper than it seems. I played it when it released, so I assume the servers are a bit smoother and that people have sort of figured out the most efficient ways to grind and grow (because I was a bit lost at first... then again, I'm the type to usually just consult guides and not bother immersing myself into the world and paying attention to NPC dialogue).

I've played a lot of others, but haven't given very many of them enough of my time to have a decent opinion. I've also played non-free MMORPGs, like GW, GW2, and others, but you seem to be looking for a free one. Hope my opinions have helped.

I agree with cnw64. Maplestory is a fun one. I used to be like a level 40 Aran class. But the computer I use gets jacks up whenever I play it, and my sister gets really cheezed off after that because she won't save her flippin' computer art.

get diablo 3 or guild wars 2, no subs are needed.
for free I go with allods or League of Legends both are fun and f2p
WHAT TO AVOID: don't play runescape or runes of magic. runescape is non-stop grinding and to get good stuff u need a paid membership and no ROM because there these things that raise your gears stats a lot and to get the upgrade you need to pay for an in-game item to upgrade it
and your levels don't matter because you can over-power Ur gear and it's extreme cheap way for the game to get Ur money.
what I recamend is playing on World of warcraft private server.  https://www.molten-wow.com/

Recently I've been playing a lot of C9, which is a great dungeon runner hack and slash action game. If that's a little too demanding for you, check out Dragons Nest or Vindictus for fairly similar game play, but slightly older games.

Another game I'd recommend trying out would be Allods Online, it's a pretty great game, especially if you have about 10 to 15 dollars to throw at it every few months. The leveling stays pretty interesting, classes are diverse, graphics are nice (very cartoony, but I like that) and controls are snappy.

And Lastly if you're looking for something totally out of the ordinary and a little more difficult, go check out Fallen Earth. It's free, and available on steam, but very non-newbie friendly. It's difficult, very complex, and does not allow for you to make many mistakes. What you are left with however, is a fabulous open world crafting heavy RPG experience, that allows you to have a similar world to Fallout 3, but have an entirely player driven crafting based economy. If you have the patience and the grit, it's my top recommendation.
