I wouldn't really call GTA IV or Red Dead Redemption an "rpg". They are broader than action adventure, but aren't stat based like RPGs are. I'd say the term "sandbox" fits here, as they are the type of games you play with a story in mind, and while you are free to do anything (like Skyrim) the main content is within said story line (unlike Skyrim). That said, I like GTA IV, but have yet to get really into Red Dead Redemption. I dunno why I haven't played it much.
