Elara : is that really a surprise? The oligarchy in power always pushes those it fears the most down. Kings, Dictators and Emperors have done it since we have recorded history....

However, I personally think the crackdowns are the best thing that could happen to the occupy movement. It makes them legitimate where before they were mostly looked at as loonies who wanted something for nothing. If the press and those in power had simply ignored them they would have slowly gone away. Instead, by cracking down, they will likely have turned this movement into something more mainstream than it ever would have been.

As much as it sucks for the people getting attacked, I have to agree with you. This could prove to be the galvanizing moment for Occupy. I hope it is and that what is really going on gets people's attention.

I personally have a tough time really supporting the Occupy movement. It feels like such a divided movement. You ask 2 people what the movement is about and you get a different answer. It's hard to support something that isn't even 100% sure of what it wants....

Maybe it's hindsight, maybe it's not, but after reading what you posted from the article doesn't surprise me. I must admit, however, that I do not expect the movement to ever make the changes. Those who are in power will find some way to keep their power, and the rest of us will be screwed.
