I was forced to go to church for many years untill I put my foot down. I'm still rather bitter about that.

it must be the teenage angst thing.... cause, I didn't like the fact that my parents made me go to church, but we agreed, that I would go until I was 18, and then it was my choice after that.... and I think that is how it should be for everyone.... but, again.... opinion....

I wasn't really force to go to church (well we call it a kindom hall) 'cause I liked it there. But days I didn't want to go, my parents were like, no your coming. But I was like 7. At like 10, I made sure I went to every meeting, I liked it there.

I don't think anyone should be forced into a set of ideals untill they're ready to understand what they DON'T believe.

it's just that no everyone believes in your Bible, and thus it wouldn't work. Why go to church on Sunday if you don't believe it? It has nothing to do with teenage angst, it has to do with teenagers wanting to find their faith their own way.

About the day thing that you guys were talking about. The days in creation are literal days. The reason why is because in Hebrew if a day has a number before it, such as "the second day". Then, it is a literal 24 hour period (unless it is in prophecy.) Common sense seems to point me more of the direction that God is real, but that is my opinion.

I'm open to the idea that maybe a high being created human beings.

But that's about it. I still think the bible is just a book.

That's how kids learn. At a young age the parents enforce their beliefs on the kid and naturally when that person becomes a teenager they rebell on matters they don't believe in(usually). When a kid is little they don't know what they want, they need to often be forced into something to see how they really feel about it. This was done to you and you now know how you really feel on it. I don't go to church, although I'd love to. I like small churches and being in one that just enjoys church for church and not church for seeing people.

I still cannot condone forcing anyone to believe ANYTHING.

If my kid wants to go to church or a buddhist temple or anything of that nature, I'd be happy to drive him.

But I'm not going to force him to subscribe to my belief that there is no god.

As always, you have a good point. But you can't let a kid be too open minded. Otherwise they will go nowhere. What you said is valid though, supporting a decision is good. Leaving it open and not supporting or denying is the worst you can do.

My kid will obviously develop their own opinion. And they'll obviously grow up knowing I'm an athiest and believe that very strongly.

But I'm not going to push that belief on them.

Right but in the post before my last one you also said you'd be happy to drive them. This is supporting what they choose but since you listed several choices you obviously don't mind that they choose what they want. So, at least you wouldn't do what I said(think) is the worst and just leave it open without support or the opposite.

They'd know that I'm an athiest. They'd know I feel strongly about the issue.

But at the same time I want them to know they do NOT have to subscribe to my theory on the world and I'd be happy to support them in any religion they choose to follow.

I would have to laugh at alot of you contradictions. They are pretty bogus. You have to take eveything in context. LIke that one time they tryed to bash Rush Limbaugh... ahhh thank god there are conservatives on the board. Personally i care more about baby babies than i do about baby seals. But thats just me personally. In the bible things to change. God doesn't change, but the circumstances and our covinants do. Like after Jesus Christ established the "new covinant" and died on the cross paying for our sins, we no longer needed to sacrafice sheepies, and our set of rules changed. God loves everyone but he lets people do thier own thing if they want to. Mabey we should go through every one of your contradictions* and look at them.

Also Jacob was generations apart from Joseph so it would make since huh. I oviouisly won't go through every one of these, but i think if you put somthing like this on the board you should check the validity of things with out copy/paste. And don't make it so an average eighteen year old little boy can tear apart your arguements

You take things very litteraly and black and white (Micheal Vash 'll support me on that). The Bible isn't black and white. It has alot of principle and what not. So look back at your arguments and try to understand what I say:

God good to all, or just a few?
It says God is good to all. He is also just (Deut 32:4). Now if God would let the earth go how it is now, would it be fair for those who respect him and the earth do die with those running the earth. No. Same with before, he rid a city of the wicked, it deosn't mean he is evil. Just becase he is just, it deosn't mean he isn't good, even to the people he distroy. By saying he is good to all, means he is impartial, one of his other great qualities (Acts 10:24)

War or Peace?
The Bible is explaining how God is peacful, he loves peace, but when it needs to be done, he can be a God of wars.

Who is the father of Joseph?
Ok I don't see whats wrong with this one. The first scrupture says Josheph was his father, and so does the second. Jacob was a relitive of Josheph many centuries in a defference (Luke 3:23,34) and back then your ancestors often mad a difference on who you were. Also the profecy(sorry no spell check) was that Jesus would come thru the line of Jacob, so it was importent to put, to show the profocy came true.

Also you must remember, the Bible was written by maney different people and they had ways of expresing themselves differently.
