For the near future I don't see much of a change. Five or 10 years from now we will still be bickering at each other for the same reasons, loving each other in the same ways, and always trying to get a step ahead no matter the conditions of the rest of the world.

In the distant future (say, even only 50 years,) I see sever struggle. The current world population is only a million shy of 7 billion people (with the expectation to reach that mark by April of next year.) 50 years ago the population was only 3 billion and current projections expect it to reach 10 billion people in the next 50 years!

I actually find this number difficult to believe because I think that the rate of growth will drastically slow. Where will we put all of these people? How much taller can buildings get? Will we cover the oceans with them or start flying them to the moon? Where will all of the new jobs come from? Where will the resources for these jobs and our survival come from given our rate of consumption of what nature can provide? We can invent all kinds of things, but the fact is that what has to be created all starts from what we get out of the planet.

I don't see flying cars; I see the world creeping backward toward a time of no more electronics and eventually that of the caveman.

Depending on how far you go into the future...

I think that humans will eventually find another place to live. Whether they make more International Space Station type things or find another suitable place to live, I think that humans will be forced to build another society.

I also think that forms of media will be different. The internet will look much, much different, and we will strive to make things like music and movies "cleaner" and "clearer".

Well, I think it'll be a lot like today, with things just being more efficient. Things that are lighter yet stronger, faster, and more powerful. I think the perfect society would be an efficient one.

Well... With The World Like This Now There Really Isn't Much Hope For The Future. Pollution And Dumping Is Terrible, Wars Keep Breaking Out And The Worlds Resources Are Being Used Up. I Don't Think This Can Be Helped Though. Animals AND Humans Are Doing This.

I think from now the future will either get much worse and be a living hell almost or technology will progress and we will have self aware robots and hover cars

I think there will be more violence around the world, the economy will fail even more, and possibly flying cars and stuff like that. And there might also be robots. I hate robots.

What will the future be like?

TOTALLY AWESOME!!

Think about it man! People will be going to space just for fun! There will be hotels in space! In fact, Galactic Suite thinks they will be operational by the end of the year and that the wealthy will begin taking regular week-long trips into space! Virgin Galactic already has 300 reservations paid in advance to fund their day trips through space, and the Russian government is working on a project to bring people into space hotels by 2016!

Just look at this site and tell me you're not excited for the future!

Lazlo Falconi : If everyone is just as smart as you maybe it can happen but you have to realize that we're humans and humans can't live in space enviroment.Even if we did left earth we'll be battling other creatures just to claim it as ours.Once we claim it.We'll kill each other over territory even battle earth .So we'll still be battling man all over again.By the way I loving the  heart balloon there.

I'm with Lazlo Falconi on this one. I don't want to look forward to doom and gloom; high technology and high hopes for me! There will always be a bit of cynicism about it all with me, but I'm getting better at ignoring that part of me as time goes on.

It also isn't officially the future with me until we have commonly-used hover cars.

Argus Swift : Either that or affordable jet-packs. Either one is fine, but we need SOME sort of futuristic travel.

...But I don't know, man. Staying in a freaking SPACE HOTEL seems pretty futuristic to me!

Lazlo Falconi : If we're going jetpacks, I'd like mine built into a powered exo suit.
Much more expensive, but 10 times cooler.

Also: A Space Hotel is dang futuristic, but it's so close to happening that it almost doesn't feel like the future anymore. (at least I really hope it is that close )

Argus Swift : And what makes you think exosuits are more futuristic? Those aren't even slated to be made, they're already in production, and they're awesome.

...In fact, I thought you'd have seen this by now.

Lazlo Falconi : I guess I should specify 'perfected' Exo suit. I think a portable power source is still the issue with those.
Plus, that video's from 2007, and the wikipedia page doesn't have much info either.
Would love to have one at my work, though. I'm tired of struggling to move couches on my own.

With all the Doomsday predictions that keep showing up, I don't even know if we will even HAVE a future with all of this chaos and conspiracies. All I can see is more of those happening.

Hm.. The World Will Get So Polluted That Eventually We Will Have To Take Up Life On A New Planet. The Aliens Will Get Scared Because Of How We Polluted The Earth. They Will Think We Will Make The Same Mistake There
And They Kill Off The Entire Human Race.

My Mind Is A Dangerous Place, Isn't It?

I personally don't have an optimistic view of the future. Eventually we might reach utopian or dystopian, and/or some kind of evolutionary transcendence, but in the end, it's all going to end anyway. It has to; everything does.

simply enough? i expect it to be a wasteland, devoid of anyone capable of doing physical labor, or being useful past the degree of using a computer.  since everything will be run through computers eventually, they just need some good, easy to setup, robotics before then and their set to be lazy.

well that may be far off still, but someday i think the ideas within Wall-E will come to life, everyone fat, roaming around on floating chairs, not even remembering what sports, or work are.
