I have been hearing people saying that they are getting their license.  I do not get how they are getting it cause I have no idea where they take the test and which study booklet you are suppose to study.  How and where did you get your license?  This is pissing me off because no one is telling me anything on how to get one.  I need to get one before graduation or I will be in so much anger cause I do not want to be 18 and say that I do not have a driver's license.  So please, tell me how and where you got your license.  Also, I want to know if it cost money to be able to take a test.

You live in Tennessee according to your profile so here: http://www.tn.gov/safety/dlmain.shtml

That should give you the link to all the information you need. I don't know about TN, but there is sometimes a small fee for processing when you get your license... never more than like $30, most often much less than that. If you click on the "Regular Driver License (Class D)" link it should show you everything you need to prepare, as well as show you how to look up your local test center.

I got my license in California, so I just went to the DMV website and got the manual, did some practice tests, and had my parents take me to the local DMV office to take my tests. I don't know why your parents have not done the same.

When I moved here to Pennsylvania, I had to go to the local PennDOT Driver's License Center and transfer my license over. Fairly simple.

There is nothing wrong with not having your license at 18. I was 20 when I got mine due to financial reasons. It can be a bit frustrating, but nothing to get really angry over.

As Elara said, just look up where your local DMV is and the people there will explain what all you need to do to get it(after you wait in a long line). And don't feel bad I didn't get my license until this past June(and I'm 19).

I got mine at 16. In Kansas, there are numerous ways. You can take an exam to get a learners permit, in which you must record like 50 hours worth of driving in which a licensed driver must sign off confirming they were there when you drove those hours. I took the easy way and took the Driver's Ed course, which was a few weeks of 30 minute lectures and an easy test at the end. Then we had to drive 5 days on the course they set up on the parking lot. Then I just had to drive for an hour in town with one of the instructors. When I completed that, I got my restricted. If you get a restricted, it works as a learners permit, only you can exchange it for a license without the recorded driving hours when if you are at least 16. So it took my 2 weeks to get mine with the Kansas system.

Go down to the DMV in your area. You will then have to take a test that includes getting behind the wheel as well as a written exam. You will need to demonstrate basic driving ability as well as knowledge of the road. Grab a drivers manual before you ever go to take the test. You can get one from the DMV or possibly your insurance provider.

I hope I helped.

Just go the DMV in your area, like all the others have said.

Here in Oregon, if you're under 18, you have to get a learner's permit first which is a written test. A learner's permit requires a licensed driver (at least 21) to be in the car with you. You have to have 50 to 100 hours worth of driving experience before you can get the license. If you're 18 and over though, I believe that you can just go straight for the license. It's a test where you drive with an instructor. You need to be able to demonstrate that you have good driving skills and have good control of the car.

And don't feel bad - I'm 19 and I just got my permit last month and just started driving in traffic last week. (Admittedly due to laziness, though)
