Not at all. I went to the community college for two years because I got paid to go to school there because I was on theater, choir, and a few other scholarships. I decided to save up on money before going to a University. My fiancee and I are in school to be teachers (she graduated, so she WAS in school), and we picked the University that we picked because it is near the top rated teacher's colleges in the nation. It was an easy choice.

My school counselor helped me a ton. At first I didn't think I'd be able to go to college, but he helped me out, and took me on college visits in his own spare time.

Out of technicality, yes. I had some help from a guidance counselor  about where to go, but me and my mom researched about colleges before hand and had a few choices of our own. I guess you can say they added a few more on to the roster of what colleges to send my grades to.

Gotta keep those options open after all.

I didn't. I actually didn't even know about things like that until I was already in college. If I had, things probably wouldn't have gone much differently for me. My school was chosen due to economic factors than any actual choice I made.

My high school didn't do a thing to help me. It helped other students, but honestly the politics in my hometown are corrupt; I have no connections, so I got no help in that regard even though students with worse grades got handouts. Metaphorical handouts, not pamphlet thingies.

She instead put up that overused graph that compares the average yearly income of people who graduate from college and that of those who didn't go to college.

I thought all counselors were that way, but my co-worker at my job is very different than my own counselors were in high school.  My co- worker actually emails every single senior several times a day with college and scholarship information. It's really quite awesome and impressive.  I could never keep up with it like she does.

Just make sure that you do your own research on the college (tours, nightovers, costs, etc) before talking to your consultant since if you have the information ahead of time you and the consultant can plan on plan for what you need to accomplish for the next whatever years till you graduate.
