"Will you kill someone you love, because of love"
That's a quote from an anime, I'm watching lately (Ga Rei Zero), but I've seen this dilemma in some movies or theatrical plays as well.
Well, on most of them, the beloved person turns into evil or something like that, and the hero/heroine has to free him/her from the evil by killing that person.

But there are also another side of this quote. You can see many examples in real life of people, who couldn't stand to be rejected from a loved one, and they murdered him/her.

My answer is that it depends on the circumstances. If the situation was like the first case (being possessed by evil or something), and I was also a movie heroine, I would think of that possibility Kidding, lol

So what about you?

(Note: Please don't take this topic too seriously, it was mostly made for fun purposes and curiosity, lol)

I've heard this quote before.

I actually was playing a game when I first saw it (OSU! a rhythym based game where you download beatmaps to play songs using your mouse or the arrows [special mode]), and I know it was from an anime, but never really found which one.

I prefer to use the word would as opposed to will, but that's just me.

"Would (will) you kill someone you love, because of love?"

If someone I love is suffering, and wants to die. Like she's on life support and she wants us to pull the plug, I would. I don't see the point in causing needless suffering. So yes, I would kill someone I love, because of love.

legacyme3 : I'm not a native English speaker, but I usually prefer "would" over "will", "could" over "can" etc, as well. But I'm not so sure, which one is more correct. That's why my thread's title says "would you..". But in the anime opening, actually on the final scene of the opening, it says "Will you..." . So that's why I used the "will" for that quote on my first post. I think quotes must be exactly like the original.

I didn't know there was such a game from that anime. Ga Rei: Zero is mostly a thriller-action-bloody anime (at least from what I've seen till now on the DVD version, lol), so I was surprised seeing a rhythm based game, lol. Thanks for letting me know though.

noelia :

Well the game itself isn't based on that anime, but one of the songs I have downloaded is the opening to one of the episodes I think.

On the other note, for the most part I agree, the only time I think a quote needs to be interpreted different is if it is a foreign quote. I mean it sounds right in the native language, but elsewhere it would sound silly.

I don't know a whole ton of japanese, but I'm assuming that the literal translation is to that, although the proper translation could be would. I'm not that great with Japanese though, so take that for what it is worth lol

I was going to start immediately with the same scenario Legacyme3 mentioned. I must say that my answer would actually be no. As much as it would aggravate me to see someone I love in such pain, my faith still stands first. The reason being is that I feel that assisted suicide, like any suicide, goes against God's sixth commendment; "You shall not murder." (Exodus 20:13) More reason? There is no such thing as "Hell on Earth." I know neolia said this should not be serious, but I still want to put my two cents out there.

I do not think that I would have the guts to do it, even if they were suffering. Even if you want to help them, actually killing them is just too hard for most people to actually do.

I think if it was a matter of allowing someone to die because they were suffering.... I could do that.

Like, they were on life-support and taking them off meant death but keeping them on meant suffering for an unknown amount of time until they died.

If it were a matter of me having to physically perform the act of killing I don't think I could do it. I can't really know for sure though since I've never been in the situation.

I agree with Geeogree here. If someone I loved was going to end up sitting around brain-dead, I think it'd be the right thing to pull the plug. However, killing someone would be difficult. It'd depend on the situation. And even then, I don't know if I could.

I remember this quote on osu too, only I remember the anime (Strike witches) and I've seen one episode of it.
Anyway, if it was say, my grandma or someone older in my family who had a terminal illness or something, then yes.

big fat cat : That's a bit off topic, but since it's a private forum, I think I can ask you here, lol
You mentioned Strike witches, I've never watched this anime, because it seems that there is lots of fanservice, but I found out that Mio's voice on the 1st season is by the same voice actress, that gives her voice to one of my most favorite anime characters (Natsuki Kuga). So I'm planning to watch Strike Witches (at least the 1st season. On the second one, I heard that it's a different voice actress)
So my question is, is Strike witches a good anime? Or I would feel like an idiot for spending so many hours on a lame anime?

Eh, Its not the best I've seen...but it has its good points, the voice acting is pretty good, and I like the music.
Its got magic, a pretty nice story, and the art style is something I enjoy.
Overall, I say go ahead, watch it.

big fat cat : Thanks for the feedback I'm planning to finish the last 2 episodes of ga rei zero, then watch a 6 episodes ova of a not so family friendly anime (that's why I don't mention the title here), and then I'll probably watch Strike Witches, since you think it's good enough

tRIUNE : I've never thought of this scenario! You have an interesting point of view on that, I'm really impressed!
