To be honest, I like American Dad more. >.>

I really like Family Guy, but the cut-away gags tend to get a little tiring. =/ I like that American Dad doesn't rely on them. Sometimes when a joke goes on for a REALLY long time during Family Guy (like Peter fighting the chicken), I have to remind myself what the freaking episode was about to begin with! Plus, I find the new Family Guy episodes a little meh.

I would say Family Guy, but honestly? I would pick American Dad, because Family Guy tends to re-run the same episodes daily, and I rarely see any never-seen episodes on the TV of Family Guy anymore.

I like both quite a bit, but Family Guy tends to make me laugh more, and they're designed for humor so it's obviously doing it's job. However that doesn't leave out the fact that American Dad's story per episode is a bit more stable, Family Guy is a lot more random and spontaneous.

Both shows are clearly designed for humor, but different styles of it. Family guy is designed for pop culture references and cutaway gags, so the more you know about pop culture, the funnier it is. But, the show is still quite funny if you don't get any of the references. American Dad relies more on spontaneous jokes and situational humor. This allows for more time in the main story and less diversions. Honestly, I like Family Guy a bit more as it's been around for a while longer, gained more popularity, and become a bit more memorable than American Dad. I still like American Dad a lot though.

I used to prefer Family Guy, though I think its recently gone downhill to the point where I just can't sympathise with most of the characters who have devolved into a**holes and its got quite predictable and just plain bad (though it looks like it might be picking up), so my favourite is American Dad, though I do still watch Family Guy now and again.
