Since Comic Con is going on in San Diego right now I thought I would bring up the topic of conventions in general. Do any of you guys go to them, if so which ones? There are lots of cons all throughout the world. A lot of the big ones that I can think of are in places like Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Chicago, New York, Atlanta, etc.

There are a lot of big conventions that would appeal to the members of this forum, I will list the big ones by category though a lot of these overlap:

Comic Conventions (which are so much bigger than comics now):
San Diego Comic Con, Wizard World (Chicago), Baltimore Comic Con, Wizard World Los Angeles, MegaCon (Orlando), and WonderCon (San Francisco)

Sci-Fi: There are a lot so I am linking to the Wiki Page for all of them and shall list some of the big ones I know of

GallifreyOne (Los Angeles), Wizard World (again), WonderCon (again), Dragoncon (Atlanta), ErieCon (Niagara, NY), CAN-CON (Ottawa), and Starbase Indy (Indianapolis)

Gaming:
BLIZZCON (Anaheim, Ca), E3 (Los Angeles),  DragonCon (again), Gen Con (Indy, but similar events elsewhere, largest in North America), PAX East (Boston), PAX (Seattle), Origins Game Fair (Columbus), WyrdCCon (Corona, CA... LARP convention), and GameStorm (Portland)

Anime:
Anime Expo (Los Angeles), Otakon (Baltimore), SakuraCon (Seattle), Anime Vegas (Las Vegas), Project A-Kon (Dallas), New York Anime Festival (New York)

I've been to some smaller cons in Los Angeles... a small comic convention at the Shrine Auditorium, OrcCon and I believe Gamex (two of the big L.A. gaming conventions). I want to check out some of the east coast stuff when I have money, but that will probably be awhile. And I still plan to find a way to go to Comic Con and AX one of these days.

iv never been to any.
I dont watch anime, dont read comics, and dont play non computer based games.coupled with the fact these things only really occur in usa and japan that makes the pickings pretty slim.id love to go to any convention in japan though, those crazy japs are awesome.

thenumberone : WorldCon moves around a lot, apparently it was in Glasgow in 2005. But yeah, the wiki page for the sci fi conventions actually lists quite a few that are in the United Kingdom, though admittedly they seem to mostly be in England.

I did find another list that shows considerably more conventions all throughout the UK and Ireland. I don't know how close any of them are to you but it is worth a look: http://www.lotna.org.uk/cons.htm

Conventions are a really cool experience that I think every sci fi geek should experience at least once in their life. It is fun to walk into a room and see people dressed up as Star Fleet officers, Jedis, UNIT members, Doctor Who, etc etc etc. One of my favorite memories from the little comic con that I went to was a guy dressed as Superman.

Elara : lol,i like how they have conventions in swanse, newcastle and inverness but not edinburgh.
Glasgows satelite 3 would be the only realistic option.

Elara : hmm,yes they do,lodsa my friends watch anime and manga etc so it would be plausible.
Plus edinburgh is 1 of the biggest tech citys in western europe,we need this!lol.
If i become loaded il be sure to start a convention. =p
I very nearly went to an anime shop in london(it was a massive one)but after seeing some reviews i wasnt sure it would be worth it,so never went.
My friend told me there was a cosplay fever event in a couple of weeks there and i was pretty annoyed.he had the last 3 cosplay outfit books and it was pretty cool, and some looked so ridiculous i couldnt stop laughing(there were some really good ones though,i was impressed.some people spent about 4k$ on there outfit)i totaly would have gone to that.
On a random note i also saw(on my last day there) a poster for a band in about 3 days.i was so annoyed,it was rise against and i seriously wanted to see that,my current favourite band.
All in all my timing SUCKED! Ah,well,i will go to japan one day and overdoes on games, events and other such wonderous things.

No, I do not go to them. It's unfortunate, because when I was younger my older brother went to quite a few Star Trek conventions when most of the original series cast were still alive but at a time when I was not really interested in Star Trek. If that had been now, I would definitely have attended.

Nope. I honestly wouldn't mind, however. My father went a few Star Trek conventions when I was really young, though.

tabbikatt13 : nice background pic.
I have been to Wonder Con, Anime Con in in my city, there is Comic Con in San Diego but probably won't drive down to there myself just yet. I wouldn't mind going to more of them. Quake Con = Massive LAN game in that huge room.
