Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing is an addictive arcade racing game for the Xbox 360.  A good way to think of this game is Sega's version of Mario Kart (which isn't a bad thing).  There are several recognizable characters and several tracks set in the Sega worlds we have become accustomed to throughout the years.
Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing has a great list of characters to choose from.  When you start the game, you have your usual expected Sega characters, such as Sonic, Tails, Dr. Eggman, Shadow, and even your Xbox 360 Avatar, among others.  Every time an event is completed, the player gets Sega Miles which help unlock new licenses in the game and are used as the game's currency.  When enough Sega miles are unlocked the player may purchase new characters such as Knuckles, Big the Cat, Ryo Hazuki, and Alex Kidd.  Each of these characters have advantages and disadvantages to using them, such as some being able to utilize weapons more effectively or be able to drift better.  These differences make it fun to try each character and see which one benefits from the player's playing style better.  There is actually an achievement to do so: Classic Collection (win a race as each racer).
There are four single player modes of play: Grand Prix, Single Race, Missions, and Time Trial.  The Grand Prix mode is exactly how it sounds: a tournament bracket-style race where every racer earns points based on where they place in each race, up to a max of ten points for first place.  Then, after the four race series, winners are chosen based on who have the most points accumulated throughout the races.  The single race is basically just choosing any single track to perform a race.  Missions are really fun to play; not only are there the standard "beat the opponent in a race" missions, but there are also other ones such as having unlimited amounts of a certain item/weapon and having to defeat an opposing racer before completing a lap, or going through gates that add time to a timer which is counting down to zero.  Every time a mission is complete, the player's performance is graded, with AAA being the max grade, and an A being the lowest grade allowed to complete the level.  There are achievements for completing mission mode: Crazy Box (pass every mission) and Mega Driver (score AAA on every mission).  Time trial lets you pick a single track and try as many laps as you would like to see how fast of a lap you can produce (you are given one boost power-up per lap), then compares your best time to other players' best times throughout the world.  It is really fun seeing how high on the time trial list you can place, and trying to beat the "Staff Ghost" for each track (there is a game production staff-set time for each track that you can get an achievement for beating).  There are a few achievements for Time Trial mode: Clock Work (set a personal best on every time trial course), Time Stalker (set a personal best on any time trial course), Shadow Dancing (defeat a staff ghost on any time trial course), and Ghost Master (defeat a staff ghost on every time trial course).
The items in the game can be compared to those in Mario Kart, but there are some differences to set this game apart from any other.  One item is a rocket, which targets the next opponent ahead of you in the race, and takes them out as long as it does not hit an obstacle on the way to your opponent.  There is also a green boxing glove that can be used to hit an enemy directly in front of you, or bounced off of walls to hit an enemy.  Sonic's shoe is shown in the power-up box for a boost power-up.  A bomb can be rolled into opponents, and the blast radius can hit multiple opponents if they are close enough to each other.  All of these power-ups can be picked up in triples instead of only one.  There are also a few power-ups which can be dropped behind you in an attempt to hit your opponents: mines that resemble traffic cones, rainbows which if driven through can cause the opponent's view to be obstructed by a rainbow going across their screen, and a shooting star which causes the opponent's screen to be turned upside down and their left/right controls to be switched.  The most notable and devastating power-up is the star that activates each character's All Star move.  Every character has a different All Star move, from Sonic turning into Super Sonic to your Avatar being carried by several other Avatars, knocking everyone over in their path.  This item is the most effective in the game, and it has its own achievements: Fighters Megamix (take out an opponent with each character's All Star move), Road Rampage (take out three opponents with one All Star move), and Altered Beast (win a race using an All Star move).
All in all, this is a very fun and exciting kart racer game.  A lot of people say it is just Xbox 360's version of Mario Kart, but I don't see how that is a bad thing.  Fun tracks, characters we all remember from our childhoods, comparing time trial laps with others around the world, and a fun mission mode make this game a must-try for anyone looking for a fun arcade-style racing game.

Graphics: 9/10
Graphics in this game were well done and the classic Sega characters look great.

Gameplay: 9/10
Very fun and addictive kart racing game; a good alternative to Mario Kart.

Sound: 8.5/10
Good sound effects and the announcer makes the game fun.

Replayability: 9/10
Very replayable, I can't seem to stop playing this game over and over again.

Achievements: 8/10
The achievements are fun to achieve, and fairly straight-forward.  Unlocking licenses, winning races, and completing mission mode.  The power-up related achievements make this game fun, such as knocking out three opponents with an All Star move, complete a race without collisions, and taking out three opponents with one triple-weapon.

Overall: 8.5/10
Trust me, if you are a fan of Mario Kart or are just looking for a fun arcade racer, you will love this game.
