Compared to my friends, I am not terrible at cooking. I love Alton Brown and watch Food Network from time to time and most of my family can cook - albeit Italian food, which I do not like at all - so I've picked up a few things. Today I made some great Filet Mignon (if I do say so myself) on the grill. It's not so hard to make, the only problem is that it's so expensive so you don't want to ruin it and it's so rare that we get it too so it adds a little more pressure. However, it all worked out today. There was enough seasonings, both sides were cooked evenly, the meat was tender/juicy, and it was done just enough for my sister who hates the medium rare.

I suppose that the societal expectations of men did not include cooking which may offer some insight as to why they are typically less willing to go in the kitchen. However, the times, they are-a-changing. I wouldn't be surprised to see the ratio drastically change within a generations.

I know I'm female, but I'm speaking for my father:

He's MUCH better at making breakfast than my mother. Mom is good at making other things, but she can't make breakfast to save her life. =| She burns the eggs and hashbrowns a lot.

Anyway, I think that my father is a decent cook. Not perfect, but loads better than I am. =| He's always the one to make breakfast and is pretty good at grilling steaks and chicken and all that.
