Either way the sun is going to blow, if we are still here as a human race depends if we find another planet to inhabit and the ability to get there, assuming we dont blow ourselves and the planet up in the meantime. Even then the universe will end eventually, the only way for the human race to counteract that is to build enough time machines for the entire race to go back to the beginning of the universe and continue living in a different area, then they would have to avoid interfering with humans from the past.

We will probly move our brains in to robots or become a race of clones, which comes with its own problems. (see the cloning thread)

Looking at our planet, as more than just 'Earth' really makes you believe this one thing... just think about it...

If we were created, with a habitable planet through millions of years of evolution, then isnt it possible and even likely that there are other planets... And assuming their condition are the same as ours... wouldnt it be possible that their world is the exact of our world... word for word?

Creepy huh?

The chance of finding another inhabital planet is like a million to 1. We could live on mars, but we need a heap of stuff sent there and set up before then.

To travel to another solor system outside our solorsystem, travling at the speed of light will take many many many years, and even for them to send a message back would take just as long. Its scientificly not probable that we will ever do this.

Im not saying WE will go live somewhere else on another planet... no we are destined to die on Earth... Im saying out there, another planet filled with life... Evolution just like ours... and even if it is 1,000,000/1, that still gives us like... a pretty good chance... considering there are billions upon billions of planets...

Supposedly the universe goes on infintly, so even if there is only one planet with sentient life on it out of several trillion, there will still be an infinte number of planets with sentient life. But proboly they will never know of or learn of any of the other races due to the distance seperating them.

The closest star to us with a known planet is 10 lightyears away. Its the 10th closest star to us.
Factor in the chance of finding a habital planet, the chances are that traveling at the speed of light (VERY VERY out of our grasp) would cause all onboard members to die so they'd have to re-populate on the spaceship.
Not only this, to send a message back from this planet is going to take just as long to get back to earth, if it arives at all. Im not sure if intergelactic interference would stop the radio waves or laser msgs being recieved.

So im pretty probable that this has a 99.99% chance of never happening.
If we have technology to travel that far, we can put citys into orbit around our humble plannet and fix what we've screwed on it.

Uhh not quiet... that speaks of a parallel universe... Where everything exists, but everything is different... Well.. techincally... ok its KINDA like that... merley a theory... if life exists here, and bob im not saying we have to go meet it, im just saying that it will exist else where...

Brad this has NOTHING to do with the closest star, its distance, speed of light, spaceships, messages or intergalactic interference... this is, accepting the possibility of life existing else where, and the possibility that it evolved at the exact same pace as us...

There is another way for life on the planet to be destroyed. Every several thousand years the magnetic poles of the earth flip, but that takes about a year to happen. During that time the electromagnetic field that protects the earth from radiation from the sun would disapear. That would allow all of that radiation to hit the planet full force. Currently it's something like only 3% of the radiation gets through and look at what that does if you stay out too long, sunburns and skin cancer. Imagine all of that radiation getting through. A side effect of the magnetic poles flipping would be that all compases would point south instead of north and EMI would destroy almost all hardware and computers on the planet.

Im sorry, I thought we were talking about when our planet dies (as the title suggests) where could we possibly live.
So what if there was another race out there, the time it would take for them to get here, talk to us, and get back, there world could have blown themselves up with nukes or something..

I think IceWave has a more logical sense in the end of the world.

Our sun is 4.5 billion years old. It is known to stay at it's mainsequence state for another 5.5 billion years, once it hits that times end it will have consumed all of it's hydrogen reserves and will expand into what is known as a Red Giant, it will expand and become so massive that it will consume most if not all of our solor system. The only thing that keeps it from exploding is because it still has helium to burn. Because at first it burn hydrogen and when you do that it creates helium. Once all of the helium is used up, it will become very dense and becomes a white dwarf. White dwarfs are no bigger than the earth in the end but they are so dense that a spoon full of it's matter ways many many tons. The light from the white dwarf goes out it becomes a black dwarf (those of which we cannot see, dur no light, no site)

But that's how our Solar system will end.

A few other things.

I think that there is possible life out in our universe, there are 100's of Billions of Galaxies and within those 100's of Billions, each one has 100's of billions of stars. Considering that our sun is 1 star out of the 100's of billions of stars in our Milky Way Galaxy. There is possibility that there is another star with the right sized planet within the right amount of distance from their star (sun) that is the right size and is tilted on it's axis at the right angle. there are 100's of trillions of possibilities.

I like to think that there is. It is not likely to travel there unless we can create of livable vessel that can travel and is big enough to hold most of mankind. I mean the people that create it won't be alive if we were to reach someplace, but the human race will.

Also, the Earth will most likely be ended by man. Not God. Whether it be green house gases or nukes or over population (very probible if we last another 300 years, look it up). If God were to come that would not be the end of mankind I can tell you that.

Some of what I say might be jumbled because I said a lot, so tell me if it is and I will clear it up. I know a lot about space. I just mix up my thoughts sometimes.

I know he has a logical and mathematical view, but I'd rather be ignorant as hell and then get the universe blown up unexpectedly than knowing the exact moment the world's going to end. Hence "Ignorance is bliss"

Cookieman, may I worship you?

In other news, heres my view. Firstly, I've always been wondering: What IS the universe expanding INTO? I mean, if it expands, it has to expand into SOMETHING, but WHAT? Since the "Universe" is as far as we can see, we can't even imagine what could possible be out there, and even if there is an edge to the universe, which may I add, will be REALLY effing awesome, whats beyond that edge?
Second, my guess is the earth and the world will like it's full 50 billion years. In my opinion, the pollution and greenhouse gasses and all that from our civilization will build up, eventually blocking out the sun and causing an ice age, in which everything is eradicated. Then it passes and life kicks in again, dinosaurs or something are born yet again, and everything appears out of nothing. (Not really).
Thirdly, and mind you, this is a very metaphysical type of thought, I think there wont even BE a "End of the World". Why? Well think about it. Our existence is dictated by just that, our existence. So when one dies, what happens? Well, I have 2 guesses, you either get reincarnated, or, the world ends.
It's funny how backward humans are. We constantly search for the answer, when we don'y even know the question. Unfortunately, humans will never find the answer, even if they find the question.

well, I'm not sure about your first point... but I think that the universe itself isn't expanding but the stuff inside the universe is expanding. The point is that things are moving away from a center point and not sitting stationary.

I'm not sure what your second point really is.... that's possible, although a large volcanic eruption is more likely to cause an ice age than green house gases.... . The green house effect increases temperature, not decrease.

And your third point is contradictory. You claim there is no end of the world and yet you give one, albeit a metaphysical one. Doesn't really make sense to me .
